Greasing Brake Lever?

Hi guys,

been mostly lurking for quite a while, but finally bit the bullet in Jan and got a 1.5k miler 06 500F (first bike, bit newer than I would've liked)! I absolutely adore it and have been having a blast taking it out around Pittsburgh now the weather is finally good!

Over the last couple of days I've noticed the front brake lever not operating as smooth as it used to. When I pull it, it sometimes 'snags' or rubs a little bit initially before actually activating the brakes. I believe it's mostly just friction between the lever and the housing around the bolt that holds the lever in place. It's somewhat irritating because braking is less than smooth when the lever becomes 'unstuck' when pulling.

I figure I should probably just slap some grease in between the lever and it's housing around the bolt. Is that a good idea? If so, what kind of grease should I use? Do I need specific motorcycle stuff or can I just get some at the local car shop?

Cheers,

-Phil

The manual under the seat should tell you the type of grease to use.  They either ask for motor oil or a thinner grease but either one will help.

Went out and bought some Valvoline general multi-purpose automotive & industrial grease. Specifically, it's NLGI #2 grade Lithium 12 - Hydroxystearate EP Grease.

Hope that works. Haynes sez general purpose greases should be ok. I don't have the original Suzuki Manual

r0b07...where are you from in pittsburgh. We should meet up and ride. I live in Mt. Lebo. Pick a day and time and we can hit the road.
