This afternoon I ran the bike until the cylinder crapped out and then tested the 3-wire connector that Kerry had mentioned in earlier posts.  I found that the Black-Blue to Brown combination gave me a reading of about 408 to 420, however the Black/Blue to Green/Yellow combination gave nothing.  I also tested the 4-wire BLACK connector a bit further up the line and same thing - no reading on the Green/Yellow wire.

I ran through the line until it met up with the signal generator and from there I couldn't figure out WHAT to test on that thing.  Should I assume it's bad or does the Green-Yellow wire go somehere else!!!!!  The manual ony states to replace it because that is what is bad, but I don't wanna spend money on a part I might not need...

Thanks for the advice but no that I'm close I need a bit more...

Hmmm - the dead wires were actually Green-White and not Green-Yellow.
Also I noticed that after the engine cooled down I was getting a reading from the wires...

No, it doesn't seem to go anywhere else.  Check out the wiring diagram:

Getting a reading when cold and NOT when warm doesn't sound too good.  Either there is a connection (or a wire) that's flakey, or Srinath is right and you need to do something with the "pulse generator" unit.

Kerry where did you find the colorized wiring schematic?  I would like to find a copy of that to print out.  And I think it would be good for those that have problems reading schematics.  The colors match the wires correct?

Suzuki gives me a quote of $146.00, Ron Ayers gave me $100.09, and BikeBandit gave me a quote of 128.31 for the Signal Generator (Part #33110-44420)... wonder if I should try a Salvage Yard...

or...

ANYONE ON THIS SITE HAVE AN EXTRA SIGNAL GENERATOR THEY WANNA PART WITH (FOR EITHER A TEST OR TO PURCHASE FROM YOU!!!!!)

I was also looking into replacing the Ignition Coils because I'm REALLY freaked out about the weak spark coming through then to the spark plugs... hmmm...

At least I'm pretty certain it's the signal generator!!!
Thanks again for the help Kerry and Srinath!!!!!

All of the scans I've been posting lately came out of my Haynes '89 to '97 manual, which a lot of folks seem to be turning down without ever seeing it.  I reach for it first, and for the Clymer when I want to compare detailed procedures.

This manual actually has _6_ pages of colored wiring diagrams, for the following models:

UK GS500 EK
UK GS500 EL, M, N, P, R, S and T
UK GS500 EV

US GS500 EK
US GS500 EL, M, N, P, R, S and T
US GS500 EV

And yes, the colors match the wires.  At least, on everything I've looked at so far....

I'd wait to replace the ignition coils.  When I was having my ignition problems I was getting a kinda yellow spark, too.  But it wasn't the coils' fault; when the signal generator was hooked up correctly again ... VROOM!

Good point - should wait until I get the thing running and then look into increasing the spark.  In the meantime I've gotta hunt down a Signal Generator...

I thought about how this thing could have gone bad... the previous owner (or the owner before...) crashed the bike on it's right side and there are scratch marks along the edge ofthe engine cover over the ignition advance and the signal generator.  I'm thinking that jolt (the wreck) musta damaged the thing...

Hmmm...

Yea I have seen those round side covers that were in pieces held on by JB weld...WTF... So I guess the cover cracking is a warning, the ignition trigger plate giving up is the result. No wonder my round covers went quick... (atleast something went quick...I have sold 1 fork brace and 7 people asking for handle bars - need atleast 3 times that to make them so come on people)...
BTW if you want those round side covers that will keep your ignition from grinding itself out if you dump it...please ask me...I believe I should make some more. The first set cost $50...I am sure if I get a ~20 orders I can get that $$$ again...(too much wasted material for small quantity). Buying a square plate is a bad idea to make a round part...
That scratched up side cover now will give me flash backs of how I struggled with this problem...eeeewww...
Cool.
Srinath.
