never ride faster than your guardian angel can fly... or 10 mph over the speed limit if you like your license.

Well I assumed if you just jam the shaZam! out of it, it would....... But by manipulating throttle to take pressure off the gear allowing it to shift easily without clutch, I just dont see it happening :thumb: :thumb:

I down shifted without the clutch once...  I hit a huge bump and my foot went down on the shifter.  It made the nastiest noise....  *shiver*

spc

Yeah it's not a kind noise :o :o

I know this has been discussed on a similar thread recently but:

with clutchless upshifting I can only get it to do it when I rev really high (8k or so) and let it drop off suddenly. Then it kicks into the next gear and 'catches' with a jerk (lurching the bike a little) that doesn't seem so smooth. How is it more properly done and can you get it REALLY smooth?

Affschnozel

You need to ease off the throttle before upshift/downshift  as said before to unload the gears
and of course road speed must match selected gear or it won't be smooth at all :o

yes it can be done smooth .  you or i can put it in the next gear at about 7k . but i like to do it best at 9k  you get it up there let off the throttle real fast shift get back on it . pretty smooth fast ... and fun .

spc

You just gotta practice at it until you get the feel of your gearing :thumb: :thumb:  I think most of the clutchless shifting I do is smoother than with a clutch.  I can upshift anywhere from 2.5k up with no real sudden drops in rpms to make it happen.  You just need to back some of the pressure off not a lot :thumb: :thumb:

RVertigo

I can shift faster and smoother without the clutch when I'm accelerating quickly...  If I'm putting around, I use the clutch.

If you're hard on the throttle, put up pressure on the shifter and quickly let off the throttle, then get right back on it...  Like a "blip," but in reverse...  Or something...

spc

I hate to do this because it's agreeing with an old asshat   :flipoff: :flipoff:  But yeah what RVert said :thumb: :thumb:

RVertigo

You don't hate to do it...  You love me. :kiss3:

spc

I wouldn't go that far......but if I'm ever clear across the damn country I'll buy ya a beer

nightrider

I still cant do it smooth.

1) I rev HIGH and let it drop off... nothing. The bike lurches with the strain and dropoff of acceleration.

2) I rev it HIGH even more abruptly, and give the shifter a little more pressure (2-3 lb upward force). It shifts abruptly, making a cracky noise and jerking me forward, doesn't sound or feel too good.

Do you let the throttle off completely before shifting?

It's like a blip...  But, it's a blip down, not up.......   Hang on, lemme see if I can find the thread.........
