Replacing the clutch isn't horrible from what I understand, just the better part of an afternoon wrenching.  Good luck!  Sorry that you weren't given a warm welcome to the site.  The only reason I gave you trouble in the last thread is because I felt that you were looking to find a way around having to wear a helmet and having proper insurance.  I'm pretty much against both of those things.

I don't, however, wish to alienate another GS'er.  Sorry if we've been a bunch of pricks.

My pushrod adjustment is maxed out so I am also going to replace plates soon enough

SOrry nastynate6695 it was just about the 6th post I answered yesterday with the same style, all in CAPS asking a really broad question.

If you have a haynes manual it makes it easier, if you dont, consider buying one through this site(check out the main page for info)

Tips- You don't have to replace the steel plates if they are in good shape(no blueing or warping)
      -I bought kevlar clutch material so I could run a full-syn oil
      -TO get the nut of the clutch basket deal, put a penny  between the drive gears(you will see what I am talking about) or stop the wheel from turning some how(like using the rear brake) when the bike is in gear

And that link did answer a few questions...Im not a bike mechanic..worked on cars a little bit.. but my field of expertise is the bar...so any new project i try to get as much info before i dive into it and end up sinking to the bottom of the pool...but thanks for all the help

wait.. you can get yeungling in FL? I lived there for 16 years and never saw it.. Of course, I didn't really pay much attention to alcohol until this past year, after I moved..

yea they started a brewery in tampa...because the demand was so high.  Plus the great great great grandaughter coulnt get it when she went to college in the south. so the family bought an old brewery in tampa and started producing...  Although do to the water and elevation they had to alter the reciepe because all the kegs were foaming..after the mod everything is fine.. there is a slight difference in taste for the bottled stuff.  If you were born and raised in pa (like i was) and you tried a bottle from fl...it would have a slight off taste..but other then that.no difference.

ive got to wait for a few more parts to come in...then im doing a complete tear down and rebuild of the whole bike.  repainting, rejet, airfilter, rear wheel, clutch plates, timing advance..and a few other toys. ...thats why im trying to absorb as much as i can now so i can be ready for this project.   of course im documenting the whole thing..
