Hi there,
From the original "for sale" post (since Srinath is editing my comments now):

See here for context...

You wrote:
"This motor was mechanically fine but had leaking gaskets, again I broke the ring when I was reinstalling the cylinders this did not happen during motor operation."

Actually, this is even worse.
To replace the head and base gaskets then reuse the rings (in one side, but you would have reused both sets had you not broken a ring on one side) and not hone both cylinders is really not good engine rebuilding practice.
The right way to do it is replace both sets of piston rings and hone both cylinders, while replacing all gaskets.
That's just a fact.
And it's good you're letting prospective buyers know what you have and have not done.
I'm sure you'll sell it, but it is good to be as open and honest about it as you are being. That's cool.

OK maybe I should move this to general.
TRW - the motor rebuilding details should be separate and not in the middle of someone's for sale post.
Cool.
Srinath.

Hi Srinath,
I disagree.
The fellow posted a for sale ad and people can comment.
It happens all the time here. When have you not seen comments from people in a "for sale" post? Never happens here!  :) We are a creative and thoughtful group.
People comment on people's posts, whether it's about something for sale or a question on how to fix something.
For you to move my reply is ridiculous.
That's my opinion.

Ok to clarify per the service manual free end gap and installed gap were found to be within tolerance on the #2 cylinder. There is no need to replace something that was not broken. Now I haven't done bike motors since I usually never have problems with them, but this was in my days as a mechanic an acceptable practice to re-ring a single cylinder in cars. Honing a cylinder where all gaps are within spec. and reusing the original rings is a bad idea since it can lead to premature wear of the ring leading to excessive end gap, oil blow by and loss of compression. I have too many bikes in the garage now and have been ordered to get rid of this one since we no longer use it, for what I am asking for a good running clean GS I could have kept my mouth shut but since I had asked members advice here when I broke the ring originally I felt a disclosure of the work performed was in order. I had cosidered doing both at the time but when I ordered rings the second set was back ordered and we were ready for our riding season we had 2 overnight trips planned and would have failed to make either of them if I had waited on parts. Currently the motor has approx 450 miles on it since this work was done, dino oil and a new filter were installed at the time of service the motor was run for 60 miles and then new oil and filter were installed. I don't do half ass work and if I had felt in any way that the bike would have failed my wife would have never been on the bike for a trip since she is a new rider with only about 1500 miles of seat time at that point.
Why didn't you just go the whole way and buy me a f@#king Kawasaki you bastards.
