Did it run before the tune up?  Did you use a factory style paper air filter element?  Are you sure you got the plug wires attached correctly?  Have you tried using the choke?  Have you tried putting the petcock in the "PRI" position?  Give us some more details.

I was having problems with it under a load befor the tune up but it started jsut fine... I used the factory paper element becuase i'm trying to jsut get it going smoothly before i start adding on... the guy that had it before me didn't even have a filter on it.  i had the choke all the way on, half way on.... the petcock at pri and everything, still nothing.

i think i figured out my problem but I'm still not sure... i can't test it till tonight when i get off work,  i had a friend over working with me and you know the nipple n the bottom of the gas tank right by the carbs?  well he connected a hose from that to the rubber T that i'm guessing is the carb vent... long story short, i think my bike is getting too much gas or something... it was late last night when we got done and i was aggravated because he put my gas tank mount on backwards and i'm going to have to take the gas tank off again anyways jsut to put my seat on right so we jsut put the bike back in the garage and called it a night.  tonight i'll get her done though so i can finally ride.... i just hope after all this headache i have no carb problems.

If you're questioning the fuel hose routing, post up some good quality pictures and we can help.

I can't imagine anything on the carbs that would be small enough to connect the tank overflow line to, except the vacuum line connector for the petcock diaphragm.

So, the small hose from the bottom of the tank goes down to an exit near your right foot. The small hose from the petcock goes to the small connector on the carb (uh.. '97, I think it's the left carb). The bigger fuel line from the petcock goes to the lower "T" connector between the carbs. The upper "T" connector is just a vent.

what happened was my buddy cut some of the airbox drain hose at the end and attached it to the fuel overflow/water drain from the gas tank to the vent hose, upper T-connection between the carbs... i'm thinking that the bike was trying to vent and it had excess gas from the drain because we spilt a little bit of gas when filling her up and the carbs weren't breathing enough so it was just killing it automatically.  the bike wants to start...

Uh.. Ok.

The reason I'm having trouble envisioning that is that the "T" connector for the vent between the carbs is much larger in diameter than the airbox vent, or the tank overflow... at least on my bike, I can't see how those would possibly fit...

we used the bigger hose becuase it fit on the vent hole... there was no hose there when i looked at it... i'm learning that my bike is missing a lot of stuff.... i'll take pics tonight and show you, i just can't do anything while i'm at work... my bike is still in my garage

alright, a few more questions becasue i can't figure out what the problem is... i'm not trying to put my bike in the shop because i can't afford that but if i have to, i might as well... like i said, i gave it an oil change, new air cleaner, new plugs, dumped the gas and put new premium in her... i also changed the fuel filter because it had an automotive fuel filter on it... i just tried to ride her, and she was able to ride but by popping the clutch numerous times becuase when i try and give her gas she wants to bog down... and the occasional backfire while riding... she wants to die too... i haven't even attempted to try and take her out of second... can anyone help me?

NiceGuysFinishLast

Did you change the fuel filter for another automotive fuel filter? Because 99% of them are too restrictive, since they're designed to work with FI, they won't let gas through very easily on a vacuum or gravity fed system.

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.
