Carb jets - what size and where to order ?

I've done the search lol ... there's a LOT of topics , and i'm half crosseyed looking through them .
-first , my particulars : I havea  '96 , it already has a Cobra F1 exhaust the previous owner welded on . I want to go with the K&N oval style filter (Lunchbox I believe , but just the filter so i'm not sure the term applies hehe) . That's about all I know has been done by the previous owner (all my mods have been cosmetic or were on the suspension)

I want to make it a bit faster , not to ride like a jackass , but I'd like a little more power if I ever want it .

From what i've been reading from previous posts , the 137.5 main seems to be the most popular choice to use with a lunchbox , but what size do I get for the idle jet (or do I change it at all?) Does the fact that I have a different exhaust change the recommended jet size ? It being a pre-2k model , I *think* it doesn't have a "mid" jet , so theoretically I just need to order a main and an idle jet right ? I know nothing about carbs , but i have a friend that will help me when I get the right materials

As far as ordering the jet/jets , I've seen that I shouldn't order the Dynojet kit , as it's expensive , but where would I find GS500-specific jets available individually ?

After we get the jets installed , i'll hit you guys up for that idle-screw adjustment lol

Thanks for you guys' patience with me so far ... you guys make life with a GS much more enjoyable  :thumb:

People here a slow to answer jetting questioins, cause all the questions have been asked before.  Here goes...

http://cgi.stanford.edu/~sanjayd/gs500/Upgrades/RejettingOld (Re-jetting matrix, good place to start)

Follow the directions from the "how-to" pages on this site, and you should be fine if you've ever used a screwdriver and wrench before, and probably even if you haven't.

I just put the lunchbox on today, re-jetted to 140 mains, 1 washer on needle (I think...didn't check), 2.5 turns out mix scres, stock exhaust...  Runs great.  Since you've got an aftermarket pipe, you may even wanna go larger mains, I'm not sure.

I've also dropped 1 tooth on the front sprocket, and am currently waiting on a backordered 44t. rear (stock is 39t.).  Doesn't give you more power, but gives you more off the line at the cost of top end...but I don't ever cruise at 100mph...

Got my jets from chapparal.com (not sure if I spelled that exactly right, but it's close).  They sell them individual (as opposed to 4 packs for typical 4 cylinder apps, I guess).

In general, I find that BikeBandit.com and Denniskirk.com have alot of stuff, along with that chapparal.com...

Have fun, be careful.....

I think ya covered everything ... ty sir  :thumb:

I know it has all been asked before , I just found , dare I say " too much information" lol . That , and I wasn't finding specifics on exhaust+lunchbox

I'll probably stick with 140's ... I saw many a post on the 137.5s , but if you think 140 and maybe larger with aftermarket exhausts , i'll just err to the side of caution  :thumb:

Once again , thanx  :icon_mrgreen:
