I reference to Toad Riders post About "How many miles it will go before empty?", Wrecent_Wryder said that in '01 the tank got bigger.
So naturally now I want to bolt a bigger tank on and increase my tank range.

Triumph203 said that it was possible and that he had done it, has anyone else done it confirm it's possible?

It might bolt on but I'm not sure if it'll look right
Grind the pegs down with asphault!

I just put one on my 94 and it looks mint.  it fits fine, mounts up right, the only thing you will notice is that the seat has to bend up a little more than normal to meet the tank.  I took a heat gun to the seat base and then put it back on the bike, it moulded it just enough and looks GRRRREAT!
:D

If I had pics, I'd post them, but I need to get my rear plastics and front fender painted first!

I have a 1989 GS  with a tank and seat from a 2004 GS.I had to fabricate a bracket for the rear of the tank, took 5 minutes. To fit the seat I had to cut off the bracket where the seat locks and make one flush with the bottom of the frame.I used square band clamps to mount the new bracket, and used small washers to shim it for a perfect fit.Everything I used I purchased from my local home improvement store.(Lowes or Home Depot)My original seat worked too,but left a slight gap between the tank and seat.May be easier to make the factory seat fit the new tank.Hope this helps some.
PICS are GONE never TO return.

Yea, thanks guys, this is really positive news,
I just need to get my hands on a tank.

I'm curious as to what it looks like now,
Does anyone have any photos what the final thing looks like?

Hmmm, there is a tank going on ebay now but its £80 +p&p,
not sure I fancy paying that much!

Why would I need a new style seat?  I'm puting a new tank on an older bike not an older seat on a newer bike.

If im not wrong, this tank will fit my '98?

It seems expenisve, but it is in good condition. Is £80 good value for money?

Could someone confirm that I could use this tank please? :dunno_white:
I don't want to waste £80 on a tank I can use.

He got it to work, he just had to modify the seat a little, so you should be able to do that same thing.

I don't think I'd try it.  I'd be afraid of it looking ghetto.  If Topher can produce pics to convince me otherwise fine, but I don't think I'd try it unless I saw proof of the non-ghettoness first.  Besides, even if there isn't an 89-00 tank available right now, I'm sure there are more of them out there than 01+ tanks and it'll be cheaper when one eventually does surface

... and do the plastics fit with the tank?

I'm in the process of modifiying the new style seat to work, but I will try to take a pic of the new tank with the old seat for you tomorrow!

What about the plastics? The 01+ tanks do not have the mounting points for the front of the 89-00 plastics.
Common sense in not very common.

Cheers, that would be great!

By plastics I assume you mean fairings?  My bike is unfaired so it shouldn't be a problem.

manofthefield

No, rear plastics that go under the seat and attach to the tank on 89-00
