OK say if you were going to buy a Brand Spanking New Full size truck What would it be?I'm a Dodge/Ford Man.Chevy is out of the Question.I don't like Chevy's.I have been Looking at the Dodge 1500's and the Ford F150's.I've Also looked at the Nissan Titan's and Toyota Tundra's.There's just too much out there to Choose from. When I get one it's definately going to be 4x4 with a V8.I was Steering more towards a Dodge Dakota 4x4 V8 but all I can find has the Crew Cab and a Short bed.I definately need a Long Bed Truck.I can Live with a Truck with a 6ft Bed but will be Miserable with it until it's Worn out.

well could you afford a diesel? imo toys and nissans are pricey with what you want but the fords i like and the dodge diesels, are nice as well, and last damn near forever and do not hit you as hard at the fuel pumps

Yeah those Dodge/Cummins diesel are great machines.  My old boss had 500k on one before he bought a new one :o :o

Dunno about your part of the country but here to get the 8ft bed on the f150 your only option is a base model work truck, consider the f250 if you want the 8ft bed. I just bought a brand new f150 supercab with the 6ft bed, XLT power option package for about 3k more I could have had the exact same thing in the f250 with an 8ft bed, and some of the equipment group options on the 15o are standard on the 250, the problem I ran into was I needed a new truck asap, old truck was taking a crap fast and I needed to trade it while it still ran to get 2k more on trade value. The only thing the OK dealers had on the lot were 45k to 55k fully loaded 250's with the 6ft bed and I would have had to wait for about 8 days for them to do a dealer trade with another dealer in wyoming. I am very happy with the truck I did get for 29,500 but would have spent the extra 3k for a super cab 8ft bed 250 and been happier. Oh and if you want a stick shift you will have to go 3/4 ton anyway they don't offer it on the 1/2 ton.
Why didn't you just go the whole way and buy me a f@#king Kawasaki you bastards.

My ex-sister in law well soon to be anyway had the dodge 1500 and it's a pos.  It's been at the dealer more than a new truck / auto should be.  In 3 years it's been back to the dealer hmmm 9 or 10 times.

I remember the first time she only had it 2 months and some of the electical stuff went out.

Truck died on her once. . . dealer could not explain why.   Said it was fixed  :dunno_white:  how you can fix something if you don't know why it broke.  2 weeks after that she had to take it in for a new battery because the truck wouldn't start.
That was kind of weird all the lights and stuff would come on just wouldn't start.

Her's is the gas version so not sure if the disel's are made better.

I'm looking in to getting a truck also but looking at the mid-size one's.  Tacoma or Colorado.  Just waiting for the divorce to get finalized.
Pilot 22.5, Mid 65 , Mains 147.5, Mixture screw 3.5 turns out

Even if the voices aren't real they have some good ideas.

I considered a Diesel and Was looking at the 3500 Chassis/Cab without the Bed.Trouble is there isn't enough Room in my Driveway to Park it. I grew up Driving my Uncles 90 Cummins HD250 4x4 5 speed and Love the Power. :thumb:
I Really like the Dodges but don't really Care for the New Body Style. It looks like I'll be going with a New F150 STX 4x4 with a 4.6L even though it only has a 6 1/2 Ft Bed I think I can Live with it.it will have the Extended cab so that will be Nice. :icon_mrgreen:

True but I'd like to Have Enough for 3.  Really When I get the Truck I'm going to be doing a lot of Moving for the Boss.Nothing Heavy just some Furniture and Odds and Ends. Then there is the Possibility that I'll be Unemployed for a while.I may get into the Landscaping/Handyman Business on my Own out in the Public. :dunno_white:

After Looking at the F250's with 4WD and an 8ft Bed they are Only a Couple of Thousand more than the 150's.

Check out consumer reports and owner reviews...

I agree that a full-size bed is needed...  It's pretty hard to haul a 4x8 sheet of drywall or plywood with a short-bed.  :cookoo:

werase643

the 03?-up 6.0L TD ford engine is weak.....and has problems with turbo's and heads
the new dodges TD...fuel injector distributor pump.....2k and they are weak

Don't think I would have a Chevy Turbo Diesel. The guy that runs the Local Auto Sales up the road bought a New Rollback a few Years Ago.Less than 15,000 and the Rods came thru the Oil Pan and the Block. :o :o Only a Week After the Warranty ran out.  1 new Motor Later and it rattles like Hell every time He Fires it up. :icon_confused:

I would like to try a New 3500 Dodge with the 6.7 Cummins but only if it was a Straight Shift. The Autos are weak.I talked to a salesman at the New Car Stealership a couple of weeks Ago and saidIf I would take a 3500 Chassis/Cab they would put a Concrete mixer on the Back of it if I wanted one.  Also said if I let them do the Oil Changes they would Extend the Warranty from 10 years 100,000 Miles to 20 Years 200,000. :o  That even covered Blown Bulbs,Transmission,Motor, anything.

What is Happening is My Boss is selling Her House where I work. For being a Hard Dependable Worker for the Past 8-10 Years I'm getting a Bonus and I need to Get a Vehicle out of that Bonus. The Problem is getting them to sell one for the Amount I'm Getting. Cash in Hand I'm sure I'll get a Pretty decent Deal. :thumb: I think I'll just go with the F150 and say the Heck with it.I was wanting a Long bed 4wd Dodge but there is only 2 in the state of NC and they are both White 2 tone.I've found Plenty of Black F150's in the state of TN. :thumb:

aye the six liter frods err frauds err fords are weak, in addition to the aforementioned turbo issues, also add in egr valves, the 06+ anything other than the aforementioned 6.0 are sweet. or find a 7.3

for TD the 7.3 are the f-ing $h!t. my father had an 01 7.3 w. the 6spd. he put on a huge intercooler, garrett big wheel turbo, chipped it and i think did a gear change on the rear but i'm not positive. bottom line, that thing would out pull a freaking freight trane and got 15mpg hwy with a 48' trailer filled to the brim with cars. then he got tboned by a drunk in pheonix and there was big mess with the insurance company, he ended up getting an 05 with the 6.0 and it got worse mpg, was in and out of the shop CONSTANTLY (like, once a month for something major) so now he has a toterhome.

non-diesel i wouldn't overlook the titans and the tundras. toyota trucks last for-freaking-ever and i had some family friends with titans that were amazing trucks. stock they did everything from towing to hauling ass in the desert to 4wheeling better than any other trucks of a comparable genre and year. but, personally, i'm a ford man and would suggest an f250. they're unkillable, do anything, long lasting trucks. f150s are just too awkward to me. they aren't little, but they aren't badass. they're like teenagers. finiky and you can't quite understand their intent.

nightrider

Personally, I like the look and feel of the Nissan trucks and SUVs... they just look cleancut and badass (XTerra, Titan), and Nissans in general feel both solid and light, with plenty of power. More quality for your money than a Chevy...

dont hate... just my 2c

97dime

personally i'm a ford man. but we have a quad cab 4x4 '04 titan at work at it is nice as hell.  gas guzzler but it is a truck and 4wd.  never cared for dodge.  parents have a 95 ram 1500 with a 360.  decent truck all around but lucky if it gets 15mpg on the highway.  i work for an autobody shop so i drive a lot of trucks.  new fords are NICE. haven't driven the new ford desiel yet.  did an 05 dodge 3500 megacab a week ago.  has more room in the rear seats than the front even with the front seats all the way back.  don't like chevy (though i drive an s-10).  look at all aspects ( interior, engine, tranny,  hauling, etc) before buying though.

I'm going to keep an Eye on the Nissan Titan.I guess right now anything is better that what I'm driving now.   90 Dodge Dakota 2WD Long Bed with a 3.9L with 290,200. :o I'm Averaging Around 180 Miles Per Tank.Screw the MPG I go by The Tank full. :laugh:I'm not complaining at all.It was Given to me by Dad and it was Pretty well given to Him by my Uncle.I've put Over 50,000Miles on it in less than 2 Years. The Only think I've done is Put Tires and a Starter on it.I wish they still made them like that.

unfortunately, manufacuterers are getting "smarter". their building things so that right when they don't have to pay for it anymore, it breaks. they want you to be buying something new every year. i will give dakotas some credit though. my stepmom has a 2000 dakota, 4x4, 5spd, crew cab? (2 doors seats 4ish), has the 4.9 or whatever. gets 17-18 mpg hwy, 15-16 in the city and that truck freaking hauls ass. shes never had a problem with it. only has like, 30 or 40k on it (it had 19k when i was going to buy it from her just out of HS 2 years ago)
