I bought a basket case 1992 FZR 600R from a guy down the road. I made three trips in my car with boxes in picking up the bike. It was defently in over my head.....Before I could even start the bike I had to replace 2 burnt valves. Then rush to make it in time for the trip to White Haven with the GS group, I just was able to get the bike back together and running to make it on that trip. Multi colored fairing, red primer, body puddy and a leaky petcock.....-and adventure on two wheels to say the least-

I fixed the leak and drove it all the rest of last summer 10k miles to be exact. (100mile round trip communt to work) At Poco Mt race way (in PA) I was finally able to get it out in the open to stretch her legs.. 86.7- the dyno said, but I wanted more... Realizing my full lack of skill I learned alot at the track and if I should return to the race track it will be on a smaller bike/class.

After extensive thinking the bike grew on me as well as the miles. The odometer now reads 38, 478....So I thought about the future. My end idea was to get my hands on a 750 motor and a 400 frame before the orginal 600 motor burned down or seized up. THANKS E_BAY

I was finally able to get my hands on a gutted 750......HOURS I spent cross referencing yamaha part number and ordering what I need for a full engine build.....I bought a complete engine kit (rings, bearings, pistons, rods, valves and bored my 750-1 over and got the crank rebalanced and again had to replace the shift dogs....wish someone would make me a titantium shift dog for FZR's (their crunchy transmissions)....After 32 hours in a sterial room like condition I had an assembled motor and nothing to bolt it to :icon_twisted: :icon_twisted:

So in 2006 I began preping to paint the bike frame and plalstics. Have returned to college to complete my Bachelor's degree I have not had time until this past week to get my HVP gun out and have some quality time with me and my other honey (don't tell her)...I am this close to completing this bike...again.... I can not wait to get her broke in and see what it can rip....If the 600 can crank 87hp....I hope the 750 bored over will hit 100+bhp...

So as it sits now I have painted the frame and sub-frame a flat black, not that weird blue spark colored FZR 400 Frame I found on e-bay. FYI the 400's have alum deltabox frame while the 600/750 were steal. The red primer body is taking on the color of canary yellow as I continue to paint, wet sand, and soon to be applying wax and getting out my buffing wheel........stay tuned

so here's my archive of pics

the 750....yea 600 valve cover is the same....as well as the tranny and other ast. parts

thanks.....was looking it over and it's good but there's a few "patchy" arears up near the triple clamp and where the air tubes connect.

After 8 hours and 4 beers I got to putting the motor in by using a series of ropes wraped around the house's I-beam and alot of muscle I got all the holes lined up.

then I got to assembling my forks w my .60 race tech springs......must have been the beer as I just bolted up the stock rear shock.....should have upgraded that or bought a better condition one off of e-bay or something.....to much work now the rear tire/chain is on and everything tourqued downed......

Next morning before work I worked the main wiring harness through it's loops in the frame and connected what I had on the bike with the previously marked connector 8) I learned last time that follwoing Hanes wiring diagrams are a pain in the butt so I marked them....Be Bold-sharpie style :icon_razz:

this is some tight little spot to get 8 wires connected with about 1/4" of room to work in

plugs on an i-4 are such a pain too...glad the radiator is off...makes it a little bit better...

fighting on my back.....

that's me....not really sure what I was doing/thinking in this picture....I think celebrating that the wires are
all connected together not really sure tho..... :dunno_white:

again using the I-beam and ropes/chains I was able to hoist the frame and engine up high enough to slide the forks in and the the rear assembly. Then I cleaned up the rotors and put in some organic pads and bleed the systems....WAS S0 tempted to just get some SS lines as well but...the 4 piston caliper and 260mm rotor...well it stops fine even if stock rubber hoses are "squishy." So far so good

Now I ran into my first bit of troubles....The upper fairing stay tubes were bent from a drop by previous owners in effect the left and right fairing were either cracked or go lost after removal. In either case I like the SVized fairing thing I've got going on with this bike. From the White Haven trip others can attest to the rain we drove through and I was the only one with dry pants. If you duck behind the fairing there is no air....just the slightest bit out from the wind drag....WHAM it feels like a hurricane....

here is how it sits tonight 8/24/2007

I spent the remainder of the afternoon sanding and working the body pannels....the canary yellow was very dull with the grey primer, so I went back and put on a coat of white to make the yellow more bright and glossy....also was out just working/practicing and I've getting quite tallented at doing fades....so I'm going to have the yellow on the front fairing then fade to kubuta orange then fire engine red on the back tail section then coupled to a flat black frame....I should paint the wheels black too to hide dirt/chain gunk but I just want to ride right now....so I might get to that one weekend or whatever.....

So here's my body work with fresh white under coat

silky white

then I was spraying and this bug flies right into the wet paint I was so pissed
What a MoFo bug, I guess that is mother nature's contribution

then his cousin and siblings show up on my body pannel

atleast no orange peal-cuz i'm good

This is dad's bike 78' KZ650.....he wants me to paint it......I said no....he got pissed.....then I said well....I will if you buy me a decent air compressor I'll do it....He said ok
So then a craftsman 80gal compressor shows up this evening and I'm like a kid getting a gift :icon_lol: :icon_lol: it floats out 11.3 cfm!!!! just what I like-power...FYI more CFM the better gun I can buy because the limit right now is I'm always filling up the cup with more paint.....12oz goes pretty quick....I used about 3/4 of a QT on the frame alone....

I talked to a seamstress in the family she has some red/orange scraps of vinyl that I'm going to get here to recover my seat and put some more foam in it....

Yeah, bugs and dust are what make painting outside a losing proposition.  You need to paint inside in a garage and spray for bugs and wet the floor before you begin.  Of course, you need a suitably empty garage first....

Yeah, you have to paint inside.  Breezes can f%$k up paint, bugs and dust will.........  Just do like I did and spray them in the dining room, my wife loved that

Yes ... My frame has grass stuck to it from where the POR leaked out. Glad that sand blasting will take it off and then on out its in a controlled environment when its powdercoated.

It has been a couple of weeks and a few more coats of wet paint, minus the bugs. I cracked open the last box of parts today and started looking at my finished creation..

Realizing a pee yellow sport fairing is/was still bland I figured I'd try my luck at some flames....I rolled out a sheet of wax paper and layer the tape to the smooth side. I then cut out my design, in this case I was just drawing lines and putting tips on them......To my suprise the tapbe template pealed right off and masked my body pannel. If I had some time I would have really liked to go back and do a little red/orange/yellow fade at the base. So i GIVE MY self an 8/10. It was practice makes perfect, not to bad, don't want to do it again type of thing. It really tested my patience and steady ness of my hands + alot of memory, I had to look parts up to find out what they were  It took forever to repaint this bike and everything. I'm going to try and get the mechanics worked out tomorrrow by snycing the carbs, tuning the low speed mixture and other tid bits. It's pretty much good to roll out down to the DMV on monday, woooo-hoooo

o gosh is that blue valve cover hiddious...that'll be the first thing I "correct" at the next valve check session....15,000miles from now....

Now if my red lettered YAHAMA logo sticker gets here I can put it on the side of the tank cover and want to get a cobra snake decale for the top part just above the gas tank cap
