Thinking about a CA tour

So, as the title says, Summer is coming up and I was thinking about planning a tour of several days that would take me to various places in California.  Right now, I'm definately in the early planning stages and want to knock out my questions one at a time.

First question is, where can I find advice/help as to which roads would be nice to take.  I stumbled across a few sites that you would have to pay for route info, but I'm sure that we have enough people here to do the same.  I'm in Santa Barbara right now and would like to do alot of ridng up the coast toward nothern california and hit Yosemite on the way back.

Good places to visit?
Good roads to ride?

I know this is super open ended, but I'm just thinking out loud with this whole process to get peoples imput.

A lot of folks who visit Pashnit (or did before it became a pay-per-view) hang out on Southbay Riders   It's a great group of people on that site who not only ride together, but have parties together (I've been to one), and if you post up there, I think you could not only get great suggestions for routes, but also make new friends to visit before you get here! I'd offer suggestions, but I suck at roads... I just follow other riders around. ;) :icon_mrgreen:

very cool.  I had checked out the Pashnit site as well but was turned off by the PPV.

SBR seems almost overwhelming with the amount of subforums, but I guess I should post up.

Pashnit has many good routes, but a lot of folks on SBR were turned off by the PPV, too, especially since there are fine folks like john and andy (who owns SBR) who do this out of the kindness of their hearts. Definitely post up on SBR in the main section. You can pretty much ignore the subsections and just concentrate on your own post. Careful, though....as with GSTwins, SBR is addictive.  ;)

Well, I've completed a rough map of my course.

Green is my start/stop in Santa Barbara
Yellow is places to visit/rest
Red is places to sleep

Day 1: ~300 miles
Santa Barbara
Lake Cachuma
San Luis Obispo
Big Sur
Monterey
Santa Cruz

Day 2: ~100 miles + ??
Santa Cruz
Big Basin
Palo Alto
?? Bay Area riding
San Francisco

Day 3: ~200 miles
San Francisco
Yosemite National Park

Day 4: ~200 miles
Yosemite National Park
Sequoia National Park

Day 5: ~300 miles
Sequoia National Park
Santa Barbara

Total: 5 Days and 1100 miles

Now I plan on filling in alot more information especially in the bay area, but I feel that this is a reasonable goal.   It'll be a lot of riding, the longest I've done in a day is 300 mi but that was with probably only 30 minutes of time off the bike when I got gas.

Additionally if need be an extra day can be added, especially if I want to check out the parks more, but that shouldn't be necessary.  Pretty exciting stuff though  :icon_mrgreen:
