Gas Cap problem

Alright I have a slight problem, I don't have a key for the gas cap on my tank.  Bike came with no keys at all.  I have managed to get the part on the outside of the cap off but have had no luck with the cap itself.  The cap just turns and turns.  Any suggestion on how I can get it off???  I need some help on this one and I don't want to damage the tank.

PLEASE, can anyone help me with this one???? :o   I don't want to have to take the tank to the locksmith to just get this damn cap off.   :x That would so suck to pay $30 plus just to get this off.

try to slide a metal feeler guage in there(or some type of flimsy yet won't rip apart metal in there). like opening a door with a credit card.  that's all i can think of for the moment

Pick it! (Guide to lock picking)

It's not hard. I picked the seat lock on mine when I goofed while rekeying it. It was pretty easy. Haven't tried the tank lock.

Okay, I just tested it. Took 5 minutes (and another 5 to find the pick I dropped on the ground in the dark ).

The lock turns clockwise to open. The wafers that you need to manipulate are towards the seat.

I'd offer to come by and do it for you but, uh, Texas is BIG.

I picked  it up a few years ago (my early 30s). I'm not fast but persistence usually pays off.

It's saved me a few times on lost keys at home and work. It really paid off when I was rekeying my seat lock and managed to get the lock in a state where there was no original key that would open it. I was filing a wafer and put the lock back together with the wafer not quite right.

Well thanks for the tips guys, I guess I am going to have to make some lock picking tools and pick the lock on the cap.  Wish me luck.

you can also pick your ign. lock w/ a paperclip  power from batt+power to bike system, (cant remember which colors of wire),just shove clip ends into connector  when dash lights up, you can start it :thumb:

Thats also good to know since I don't have a keyed ignition, I am looking at one on ebay, but I am probably gonna have to wait a little while before I get one.  Hopefully I get the carbs I have bid on and then I will be able to test the engine to make sure it runs.  If not then I will rebuild the engine completely.  Will kinda put me behind in my schedule for having my MC up and running before the end of this month so hopefully I will have it up and running by the time spring gets here.  Then again since I am in TX it is almost riding weather year round. :thumb:

So I'm not the only lock-pic that frequents the BBS.... I made my own set of pics -save your old windshield wiper inserts...the stainless-spring steel they use in that makes great pics and tension bars.... I also have a "real" set....
I occasionally picked the locks for my local salvage guy...

Gas caps can be fun...often you get them open but the mechanism is stuck from corrosion....

I've Found the Honda locks like the 8 shaped pic ...the suzukis seem to like the "snake"...or S shaped one....
When the 2nd Amendment is lost, the rest will soon follow.

Torque is LBs-FT Damn it.
