I need to get some riding pants but I don't want to give an arm and a leg for them. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have a mesh jacket, but I know that won't protect me very much- so I got a tourmaster advanced sport textile jacket. It should be better, but I don't have anything for my legs except jeans. Any suggestions would be great. (on pants and where to find some reasonably priced)
thanks

www.newenough.com or www.kneedraggers.com  it's really strange since I started riding I always rode with my firstgear overpants and now when I ride without them I feel . . . weird .. . naked.

Yeah love my firstgear HT's very comfy great protection, wife has joe rocket cleo pants those are also nice.  I know some people have said they don't like joe rocket gear but we have not hand any issues with them yet.

Even if the voices aren't real they have some good ideas.

I was going to suggest TourMaster's Cortech overpants (about $100, or was it $200...?), but for a mere $50 you can get the Fieldsheer Carbolex overpants, see here for more (warning) info: http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=11184.0

Denier is important for slides, armor for impacts, and fitment so the garment wont twist on your body and remove hair.

I just bought a pair of firstgear HT's they are great, super comfortable and allow great airflow.

All depends on what is affordable :) I have two pair of pants. I have a pair of tour master dsx jeans, bought for riding when I need to walk around and look 'normal' after riding to the store or something. They're like draggin' jeans, except they use leather patches instead of kevlar. Everyone says leather is good so it worked for me. They also include knee armor, unlike draggin. The big reason I picked them over the draggin jeans though is the price... < $70 a pair.

I also have a pair of mesh pants for hot weather travel. They're tour mater venture air pants. Nice quality, include ce knee armor and hip pads, sturdier fabric on the knees and seat. They also have a two stage liner system, with a waterproof liner and insulated liner, so they're good year round. I bought a size large and wear them as overpants (they zip up to a bit above the knee). I know they're not the ultimate protection, but they should do ok and they feel great in hot weather, plus they're flexible enough for any sort of weather. They run around $125 I think. The joe rocked equivalent is probably better since it's a full textile with removable patches for mesh, whereas these are all mesh, but for the price they're hard to beat.

Cheaper mesh gear may not protect you as well as better non-mesh gear...  BUT...  If you won't wear the other gear, then what's the point of it?

My buddy rides in mesh pants year-round.  He uses the waterproof/windproof liner when it's cold or wet...  He knows they're not as good as the riding pants that I have or as bad-ass as leather...  But, I only ever wear my riding pants when it's cold or raining.......  So, his "crappy protection" is still WAY better than my "left 'em at home" protection.

If you double the protection of jeans, that's still not very good...  But, it's still double that of jeans, right?  So...  Get something you can afford and you WILL WEAR...  Even if they're not the greatest thing in the world.  Mesh riding pants are still going to be better than jeans alone.
