Handlebar vibration damper -- tips?

The vibration from my handlebars makes my hands feel funny, especially on 30+ mi trips.

Somebody mentioned there was something called 'bar snake' or something you can put in there to kill the vibration.

Does anyone have experience with this or a similar product that works well?

Thanks

1.  Did you change your stock bars or remove the bar-ends?
2.  Are you "Death Gripping" when you ride?
3.  Are you locking your elbows?
4.  Are you holding yourself up with your arms or your knees/abs?
5.  Are your levers adjusted down or up?  Do you need to twists your wrists up to pull the levers?

If you answered YES to any of these, I would work on correcting that issue before spending time and money on something that will most likely not solve your problem.  From my own personal experience...  What I thought was simply vibrations in the bars making my hands go numb was actually being caused by a number of factors:  Death Grip, Supporting with Arms, and Twisting my wrists upwards to work the controls.

But from what I've heard, there are a few things you can do to reduce vibes...  You can fill the bars with BBs or bird-shot, you can get a bar-snake, you can install heavier bar-ends, and/or you can try different bars.

I agree with RVertigo, the most likely cause is not relaxing, getting tense and gripping to hard. Try to shift around a bit, move your shoulders and elbows, most important of all is relax your grip.

Aside from everything that RVertigo has suggested...I've heard of a bunch of random stuff people have filled their bars with that supposedly cure vibrations...I'm not going to list them until you've checked all of the adjustment issues first..

If you can't flap your elbows like a chicken while riding, you're gripping too hard or leaning too much.

I went with the BBs in the bar when I replaced my stock one.  It really works quite well, even with no bar ends (I didn't want to pay the $20 for new ends).

Now that you mention it my right hand lever (brake) is rather high, like maybe 10-20 deg, or .5-.7 inches. I like it there as it's easy to grab and rest my fingers on, but I will be changing the position tomorrow. And yes that is the side that's been bothering me really... numb, tingly wrist after long road rides. Makes for a more acute throttle-on position generally when the lever's in that position... so thanks. Im sure it will help.

Also consider a product call bar snake, some thing you put inside your handle bar.
A crash is the result of the rider's mistake, so don't blame the bike

A rider should be able to control the bike but not controlled by the bike, becuase on the track you don't want to DNF and on the road you don't want to lose you licence

Check your tire pressure and condition too. I think thats why Im getting alot of bar shake on the road, usually around 85mph  :icon_rolleyes:

I adjusted the lever position but there's no getting around it... the stock bars vibe really hard. Not as bad as the near-straight drag bars that the bike came with, but... still enough to make numb.

Maybe bar snake.

Onlypastrana199

are the clamps that hold the bars on tight?
