doing a search for simple items yields.....200 sites that want me to pay them to look up public records
heck I can't seem to be able to use the white pages to look up addresses of people I know.
everything now costs 20 bucks....

are there still free access search engines left?
why should I pay for somebody else to search public records.....they are PUBLIC RECORDS....why can't I access them directly?

I'll step out on a limb here and say "because you don't really know what you're doing".  You've probably not spent much of your time up to your elbows in public records and documents trying to find stuff.

What are you hunting?

best records resource I've found is lexis-nexis.  it costs but it's well worth it :thumb:

Mak, I've been to the county offices and searched through microfische...I can find stuff if I need to, but the internet search engines all seem to go to pay sites.

just trying to look up old friends is dang near impossible

i believe dylan said it perfectly "oh the times they are a-changin."

it's part of our society now. no one knows how to do anything but their job and MAYBE one or two other things, but everything else, well, thats why they work, to pay someone else. So, now people know they can charge because most people are willing to pay. Prime examples: cars? not enough auto programs in schools=not as many people that know about cars=shops can get away with charging $150+/hr labor. Better yet, don't bother fixing it, buy a new one! (don't even get me STARTED on this! there aren't "mechanics" anymore, only "technicians" which translates to "glorified parts changer"); computers? Oh, those are complicated, pay me and i'll fix it for you, you'll get lost if you do it yourself.

The days of enlightenment are over, my friend, these are the days of ingorance and all around lazyness. Fortunately i never adhered myself to society around me so i've learned to do everything for myself.

I blame college degrees.
