Bike losing power at low fuel

Hi all,

I've had my '92 GS500E for about 2 months now and love it... however I have a couple of questions.

1)   One problem I've noticed is that when the bike has low fuel, it tends to start losing power.  It's hard to explain exactly what happens, but it feels like it's basically running out of gas, and it starts losing power.  What's weird though is I look inside and there's usually still a bit of gas left.  So when this happens, I usually put it on reserve.  Is this normal?

2) One thing I'm jealous of the bigger bikes is the saddle bags.  What do you guys do when you want to carry something (other than using a backpack)?  Are there any bags designed for this type of bike?

Thanks

I like my tourmasters. They'll big enough for a laptop, raingear, and lunch.

Here's the current version:

Just don't forget about Fleabay and Craigslist. I got mine for about $40 + shipping.

I'd say yes... There are two pickups in the tank, main and reserve. When there's a little less than a gallon left (.9 gallons I think) the main pickup can't get it, so you switch to reserve. Since there's no fuel guage, the idea is that you try to fill up before you have to hit the reserve, but you have a little left if you don't. Basically a crude low fuel warning system...

I'm planning on getting the tour master cortech sport bags. There are some larger ones, but the sport ones are fairly sleek looking and probably do enough for me.
