Today I installed k&n lunchbox, V&H full exhaust system, put in a 15t front sproket also.  Anyways I put 2 washer on each carb, 150 mains, and 40 pilot jets.

I set the air screw 1 turn out. started and warmed up turned my air screw till it reved adjusted my idle did the same to the other carb  after this I think i'm around 2.5 out but I can't adjust the idle down anymore.  It is at 4500 rpms.

Would these cause this, or do I just need to try adjusting my screws again.

1. I could have moved the throttle cable position when I reattached it?

2. Could the 150 mains be too big?

3. Would me having too many washers on my ?needle? thing do this?  I have 2 at the moment should I try 1.

If you guys think I just need to try adjusting my screws a bit more I'll get a screwdriver that'll work a bit better and try it tomorrow.

Or any other suggestion you guys might have would be welcomed

There are really only a few things that would cause such a drastic idle. First make sure that the throttle cable is holding the throrttle open at idle(i.e. not enough slack) and make sure that the idle screw is turned out enoug.

I really doubt it is a vaccuum leak based on the fact it is at 4000RPM and wont go lower

i was told to use 1 washer... I haven't done mine yet though, still waiting on the jets to come in the mail :p

Yeah I may need to grab a micrometer or whatever and measure how thick my washers are.  Does any know what effect to many washers has on an engine?

I had this same problem and it was because I had the wrong size jets. I couldn't say what the right ones are for your bike but I rejetted and the problem disappeared.

good luck. I thought I saw a rejetting matrix on the wikki

yup, I did

sounds to me like the idle/throttle cable needs to be loosened....I mark the bolt with permanant marker when I remove the carbs..

I recently rejetted with high idle problems too, now I just have cold engine stuttering problems.  Turns out I had both a vacuum leak on my left carb sealing to the K&N, AND my throttle was too tight for some reason. I think part of my problem is with my superbike bars, but I got my idle fixed with a little cable adjustment and going over everything, checking for air leaks. Make sure you really get those connections tight! Take a minute to fiddle with the adjustment nuts on the carb linkup with the throttle. That was what really helped me get it fixed in the end. There is also some slack to be had in the tension adjustment on the throttle.

Alright I took it apart this morning and downsized to 145 main jets.  I took out 1 washer.  Then I turned my air screws in and my left carb air screw was out about 6 turns  :o don't ask me how.  So I turned them both to 2 out and went and got a mirror and a better screwdriver.  Turning 1/4 turn at a time I got it back running well I ended about 3 and a 1/4 turn I think.  The V&H sounds great BTW.  Also checked my throttle cable and adjusted just a little bit wasn't too bad.  Thanks for your guys help in this.

My new specs are 145 mains/ 40 pilots/ 1 washer and around 3 and 1/4 turns on my air screw.  we'll see how my plugs look in a little while

I'm off to take a ride wohoo 8)

i was hoping to get my jets in the mail today, but still haven't seen them.  I started the disassembly of the bike last night, and quit when I got to the carbs (too dark to see!)

So this morning I started up again.  Wrestled the airbox out, and took the carbs out.  I had one HELL of a time getting the float bowl screws out!  3 out of 4 stripped out.  I was able to get vice grips on one of the screws and turn it a smidge at a time...  and for the last one, I brought the dremel out and cut a slot in the top of it, and used a flathead screw driver to get it out.

Next up were the pilots.  Both mains came out easy as pie... but both pilots were pretty stuck in there.  I REALLY didn't want to strip those guys out...  I got out my set of precision screwdrivers... and hammered the biggest flathead lightly into the pilot jet, and used the vice grips to turn the screwdriver.  easy as pie after that!  This took up my whole morning.  stupid me spilled gas everywhere..  Anyway, the bike is still completely stripped and sitting in my back porch waiting for my jets.  So after all this, I took the time to go to the hardware store and get stanless steel allen head bolts to replace those pesky screws...  and went by the auto parts store to pick up a universal breather filter.

I guess the next dumbest thing I did (so far) was take off the throttle cable, and not marking where it was or anything.. I'm sure it's going to be HELL getting that thing on there right again...

I can't wait to hear how yours is running!  I'm really excited about getting the new jets, and putting the new KN lunchbox in there!

I just put it(throttle cable) back so it looked almost like it had then checked the tension on it.  had to tighted it a little bit.  But when I got everything running good I realized that my bike was reving up to 3-4 thousand rpm whenever I turned right so it seems I got my cable a little too tight.  It has an adjustment on the handlebars tho so you should be able to fix a minor problem there.
