I'm thinking about the SV as a new bike. I wanted to know if the legs posision is better. I'm 6'1 and when I'm no my GS with the balls of my feet on the pegs, I feel like it's hard to reach down, shift, and then return to a good riding posision. My leg gets sore after riding for a wail. what I really whated to know, is the seat to peg distance longer on the SV than the GS?

Jake D

Hell no!  If you do get an SV, just have your legs surgically removed.

Thats not the awnser I was looking for, that sucks. I guess I'll have to loss some weight and work out a little more.

Jake D

What does losing weight have to do with it?  Just to make the GS faster?  The GS is as fast as an SV anyway.  Just not as comfortable.  But there are plenty of peole with SV's that swear they are super comfortable.  I just wasn't one of them.  If you like having super numb hands and leg cramps, then get one.

Damn it man! Thanks though!

The GS was a little small for me (at 6' 6"), but I like the ergos of the SV naked. The longest ride I've been on is 8 hours nonstop; and sure I had a sore ass, but other than that it was fine.

How tall are you Jake?  I'm starting to see a little trend where taller people like the SV.

Pandy kinda throws a wrench in that though.......

So much for my craptastic theories.

I'm 5'4" and 1/4, TYVM! I'm TALL for my height!  :flipoff:  I love my SVS, and I love him even better since I lowered him. I went from tippy-tippy toes to flat-footing him, so you can imagine just how lowered he is. He fit my stepson pretty well, and he's about 6'? 6'1"? The stock SVS is taller than his new Gixxer 750 is!  :icon_mrgreen:

I get blamed for EVERYTHING around here!
:woohoo:

My buddy with the SVS is 6'2"...  He LOVES it...  He swears by it...  Like he gave birth to the thing...

I'm 6'0" and I HATED the SVS...  Hurt my back almost instantly... Knees were more cramped than the GS...  I couldn't find a comfortable position...  Yuk.

Have you tried adjusting the shift lever? It was one of the first things I did on my bike. Sounds like it may be too low for you, your riding position, thickness of your boot soles, who knows...

People that own them love them.  'Til they sell them.  That's the difference.  Then they get honest about them.  Honestly, my knees hurt everytime I rode it.

I'm 6' and only have about 400miles on my SVS, but here's my $.02  It feels similar to me - except with the textured seat, I'm no longer sliding in to the tank.  I'm also finding that my knees sit comfortable against the tank - it's wider than the GS so it's easier to hold the tank.

So far, I've found that my knees don't hurt too much.  Though I can see a 4 hour ride would not be entirely pain free.  I am finding that my right wrist/hand is killing me after about 20 minutes - I'm resting my left arm on the tank frequently.  Also, the seat leaves something to be desired - the GS is a freaking couch in comparison. :)

Ok - back to my beer - proofreading is getting hard

I love mine.  I will rave about that bike for decades after it is gone.  It does have its shortcomings, but dollar-for-dollar it is one of the best sport bikes made today.

My only complaint (and I'm pretty sure I have voiced this before) is the parts-bin front suspension.

Also, I'm 6'3" with a 33" inseam, and love the feel of the SV650S.  very comfy.  If I one-hand her I can sit nearly straight up.  I have ridden her 900 miles in a weekend with no soreness in the legs, arms or back.  only a modest case of monkey-butt.

I rode my friend's SVS for about 150 miles.  I didn't like it.  The pegs are more "sporty", and I have very big feet, so my ankles felt like they were touching my ass.  Not a comfortable position.  I think the naked SV is a little less aggressive, and more like the GS.  I'm looking forward to trying out a V-Strom.  Sounds like my kind of bike, even though it's about as pretty as a sphincter.
Sorry, I won't answer motorcycle questions anymore.  I'm not f%$king friendly enough for this board.  Ask me at:

I've found that my Sidi boots don't like the pegs ... they feel like they're pulling the rubber off .. it's a weird sensation.

Crucialval

I rode all week to work and by the second day my left leg hurt from pulling it back to the peg it's almost like I have to swing it up there. I'm not sure but I think if the shifter was attached to the peg like other sprots bikes ti might not be an issue. I was thinking about makeing some costom rear set that have less travel between peg and shifter. I also have big feet so this might be the problem. I'm not sure, but like to tinker with my GS so maybe I can find the problem. I need to test ride a few bikes to see what I like.
