I've been working my buddy to buy a bike for about a year now, and finally he's caved. We're going to Oakland to check this one out tonight.


Needs a little work to the starting unit (kickstart only), but other than that its supposed to be in good shape.

Step 1:  Take that seat off and burn it.
Step 2:  Get it to run well.

I love that seat. So much. I was thinking of trying to fit it to my GS500!!!

that's an ok specimen...that seat looks like it was made for a really, really large set of asses.  Kind and Queen seats are great for the road, though.

That gas tank has great lines.   I saw Hightower riding a bike with a seat like that.  He was sitting all the way back.

UPDATE---

We drove down to Oakland to look at this thing. The guy told us on the phone that he rides is all the time and that it starts up no problem. And that the only reason he was getting rid of it was because he got a Katana 750 (early 90's).

He said it "ran well".

Got down there and here's what I saw:
no oil.
hasnt started in over a year
engine may be seized.
rusted out chain.
hole in a brake line.
the headlight was held on by one bolt and a rolled up piece of paper.
dead battery (didnt bother to charge it).
gas tank was off, on the ground.
old gas (from last time it started).
and rusted out triples.


not at all the sort of thing my buddy wanted to start with. If it at least would have started, he would have bouht it. but...

so, back to craigslist.

sorry, its early.

it was the gearing at the wheel end. where the shaft meets the drive thingy. damn. its still early.

I pulled back the rubber boot to look at the actual linkage and it was all rusty. Not good.

There's so many decent, if not good, bikes for that price range in Cali...good plan to keep looking.


Rust is something to definitely shy away from.

UPDATE!!!!

My buddy found and bought a 1975 CB360 Twin. Great little bike.

It needs a little work, but it pulls pretty good.

Needs to replace the front brake assembly, including the master cylinder.
clean up the carbs--they work fine but could use some cleaning.
rework the electrical.

THis is going to be a fun project.
