they will cancel out the policy once it has been deemed totaled.

Not always true.  Progressive didn't cancel mine, they kept charging me for a totalled bike.  Who wants to pay insurance on a wrecked bike anyway, if he was insured at the time of the accident, thats what matters.  If for some reason it is not deemed totalled and repaired, a new policy can be started later on, after the bike is repaired.

Don't let insurance folks tell you you have to have reciepts either... its REPLACEMENT value.  As in, current market value.  Look up what it will cost you to replace it, print it out, and keep it in your records.

Granted but do not cancel the policy until you have had direct contact with the adjuster.  Replacement Value only applies to any custom parts and gear and then only if you have custom parts coverage(Progressive does a good job with this,  the bike will be adjusted in Actual Cash Value, or the current bluebook value.

Also as some one above said, If the Insurance Company from the driver of the truck calls, Do not admit to anything. Dont even talk to them, refer them to the adjuster you are dealing with or if they call you before you talk to your adjuster, refer them to your insurance Company. Your company will fight for you better than you can fight for your self and they will do it as the per the police report and not try to trick you into admiting any kind of fault(ya claims is the dirty part of Insurance, hell i even hate most claims departments)  I personaly would refuse to speak to the other insurance company, if you do, conference in a lawyer or your insurance agent.

Good luck! and as said before, Send me a PM if you have any questions

PS what state are you in?  that way I can try to answer them per the laws in your state

Wow everytime I hear this I am bummed and frustrated by the people who drive like crap out there. Here in CA everyday at work I hear about a motorcycle down on the radio. It really sucks we need tougher laws for people who nail a bikes. So the guy got a ticket for running a red light. I hope his insurance company sticks it to him. Jordan I am glad you came out of it ok and sorry about your bike. I hope you heal soon and get a deal :thumb:

I got the Freidman,Domianno and Smith people for an attorney. I see them a lot on tv and thought they should be good. I go Wednesday at 4 to see one of their attorneys and he'll get started on my case. anyone know what I should or should not do at this point?

Hope you feel better.  Glad you survived.

Gear and bike can be replaced, you can't.
