Where are you located? In the states the last year of the E is 2002.

Not sure about Canada, but they did not offer the naked model in 2004 in the US.  I'm guessing if your vin designates it as an F, then it's been converted.   I would say don't sweat it, I wish my naked was an '04...

They did (and still do?) make nakeds in Cananda in 04.  They may have just had one owners manual for the two models or the previous owner may have lost or never got his and picked up one for the F cheap.

Or it could be converted.  Does it have an oil cooler? (little radiator looking thing at the front of the engine)

i'll have to take a look at it when i go home, if it does...what does that mean?

No oil cooler in pic = E

Unless someone went to the trouble of removing it when doing a conversion.  Also, I think the tail plastic would be white if it was an F, but that could be changed too

So, I'm gonna go with E unless someone did a very thorough conversion

That's a nice looking bike, is that your actual bike?  Sharp!  The oil cooler looks like a small radiator (well, it IS a small radiator LOL) that would sit on the front of the engine of an F model... see a pic of Mach1's bike he posted when he converted his F to an E:

As I said, definitely no E's after 2002 in the US.  They were still available in Europe though (and seems Canada according to Manofthefield).  The bike you have pictured looks like a stock E.

thanks for the help guys, that is the actual bike, since that picture i have swapped the rearview mirrors to smaller round ones.

Looks kinda like Alpha's old gs. I know he and I swapped tail plastics, his was an 04 F (Converted to E) mine was an 05. Not sure if it would have made it to Canada though... :dunno_white:

That is definatly an E.

1. No OIL Cooler
2. The tail on an 04 F model is White, not Blue.

1. All GS500's from 2001 - current have that same seat design
2. They still make naked GS500's, just not for the U.S.

What was the manufacture date? If it was made in 2003, it may be a 2004 model if far enough into the build run.

There were no US 2003 models, but I can not say there were no Canadian 2003 models.

That would explain the lack of oil cooler and 2002 look.

I will have to look in my 89-05 service manual for details.
