I just really can't grasp the stupidity.  And I see guys like this all day long wheelying up Rt 25 in CT, at about 80 MPH or faster.  No Gear.  Idiots.  Is it really worth it?

When I was in High School, one of the girls that used to hang out with us was constantly(and I mean CONSTANTLY) bugging my bud to let her ride his Kawi dirt bike... kdx80 or kx80.  It was a quick little bike and fun as hell.  Anyway, he finally breaks down and lets her, I take a spin on it, show her what to do, and then we stand on each side of the bike while she gives it a shot...

She revs the snot out of the thing, and before I can stop her she pops the clutch, flys away from us pulling a big ass wheelie for about 40 yards LOL, and then panics and dumps the bike.  We all laughed about it later(a LOT), but she had some pretty good road rash on her right leg.  She got back on the next week though, and she actually became a pretty good rider.

Even at 15 mph, it's like holding a belt sander up against your skin, LOL... I just can't even fathom people that ride with no gear.

Yeesh, just watching the beginning of the video you know its going to happen with thier throttle control. Sometimes i think wheelies at 70+mph are easier than 10-20. Atleast they look that way. I dont wheel and probably will never wheelie cause im a chicken shaZam! and do not want to risk my bike

and Holding a belt sander to your skin hurts like hell too. done that, granted not on purpose but shaZam!.

I really hate it for the guy, he was in serious pain.

Hopefully he's not only learned for himself but taught a few thousand others to wear some gear, and not ride like an idiot.

I saw it and thought ,. he completed the wheelie , and it seemed fine , then low sided , and got messed up proper ,

I always wear my gear , id rather get up , then miss weeks of work with painful sores and weeping

Hope everyone thinks a little harder , instead of going for a spin in Shirt and Shorts

I've heard that it's easier to do them fast, but I know you aren't gonna get the GS to wheelie at 50 mph.

I'm not really sure why he crashed... maybe he landed with the wheel out of alignment?

I'll put money on that he just fecked up. At least he'll learn a lesson on decision making & that there is a result for actions taken.

In the dude reply to others, he mentioned a patch of dirt that caused his front to wash out. 

Patch of dirt or not, it's still the fools own fault. If he'd been geared up a bit better & not dressed for a day at the beach, I'd have a bit of sympathy for him.

Now excuse me while I go & chase some kids off my front lawn. 

When I saw it, the first thing I thought was that his front end washed out while braking in dirt.  I did that once (but thankfully recovered).  I was just in the parking lot, just testing the bike to verify that the brakes were working correctly after changing the brake lines.  I wasn't wearing gear.  I don't do that anymore.  I gear up and hit the road to test the bike.

right there behind you, ive only been riding for les than a month, and the thought of purposely pulling a whellie scares me to death. the bikes fun as it is without making it any more exciting haha.

It's just like any drug... you get used to the low doses...the roll-ons from 6K, the little wheelies... eventually you either learn or you wreck (and hopefully learn from the wreck).

Plus (and I can only speak for myself), I don't want to move to a bigger bike until I know exactly what my GS is capable of and how to control it to (near) perfection.

first gear wheelies are tricky because the bike is much more touchy on the throttle. it is much easier in second since it comes up slower. On the Z I start about 60 , slip the clutch and it comes up smooth. if i power it up I have to be at about 45ish but it comes up kind of fast.I would definitly recomend wearing gear but even after a wreck a few months ago and fresh scars from rash I still don't unless I am going out with the specific intent to stunt .I wouldn"t recomend not wearing gear but with more than a decade riding,having crashed before and knowing full well the pain and damage of riding without it I make the informed decision not to.If I wreck again and am laying in a hospital bed somewhere (or a casket) whining about it I will have nobody but myself to blame.
