Weird mail from State Farm.

Background: Florida is a "no fault" state when it comes to medical.  That means that no matter who is at fault, your insurance pays your medical bills.  I think this is pretty crappy, especially with MC riders, since when a cager tries to kill you, their insurance doesn't pay for your medical bills, and personal injury coverage for motorcycles is outrageous.

So I get a letter in the mail from State Farm the other day, encouraging me to writel my congressperson and encourage them not to continue Florida's no-fault policy (apparently it had a sunset provision).  I don't trust insurance companies to do anything but try an maximize their profit, so what's their angle there?  I don't see where it improves things for them.

But then they have to pay when their customers are at fault.  As it is, MC riders aren't required to carry insurance to get their bikes licensed in FL, so it seems that as far as motorcycles are concerned, they'd be better off if the motorcyclist has to pay his own.

Many riders choose state farm because their underwriting policy practice is to insure a bike strictly on engine displacement. My full coverage insurance on a 2003 954 is $226 annually. Because it is a litre class superbike progressive or geico charge aprrox $2600 annually. Because the car insurance market is so much closer many people have insurance other than state farm thus if the auto insurer must pay out when the cage is at fault their is a good chance it may not be them having to pay. This potentially relieves them of signifigant financial burden. I have a friend who I ride with that is a claims adjuster and fraud investigator for state farm. I will ask him about this next time I see him.
Why didn't you just go the whole way and buy me a f@#king Kawasaki you bastards.
