I am looking for someone who can tune/clean my carbs near mountain view (Bay Area - sunnyvale, palo alto etc). I went to Hare racing and Bike world but, 1) they are overbooked for 2 weeks and 2) charge $90 per hour which is a bit too much for me.  I am looking for somethin @60-70$

OR

I am also game for doing it myself (have done minor repairs to the order of changing crankcase gaskets), but carbs looks like different game altogether, so would love to do it under somebody's supervision/help. If you are free sometime and  want to relive your mechanic life with unlimited flow of beer ( I can also pay you), I could use some help. I think have the necessary manuals and tools.

NiceGuysFinishLast

dude, get a clymer's manual, and do it yourself. Really, it's very simple. Just take your time, and make sure you put everything back in the right order. (And don't lose those damn tiny o-rings!)

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

WildBlue

Definitely if you're mechanically inclined, you can do it yourself.

Santa Clara Cycle has a mechanic, they might be able to do it for you -- http://www.santaclaracycle.com/

Stay away from RR Cycles in San Jose, their rates are ridiculous.  Scratch might have other suggestions too.

It's intimidating at first, but it's really not bad at all.  I can give you a hand if you'd like.  Are you coming on the BAGS ride on Sunday?

Thanks people, your suggestions has given me some confidence to do it myself. :) I am planning to do it the next weekend (July 7-8) so if anyone is free and can help me out it will be great. I have the clymer manual with me. Pandy can you point me to the video you are talking about?

If you're careful you can do it yourself.  Lay out a rag about half the size of a t-shirt, and only open one carb at a time.  Don't spray the carb body, there are hidden rubber parts...well, you can spray some of the orifices, just not the one with the main jet.  Fresh gas and one soft brass bristle from a soft brass bristle brush should be enough.

I might be available after the ride, this Sunday.  But, I think I might be tired.

If it's a party, it would have to be this weekend...  Paaannndy?

Okay, I might be able to make next weekend...

Yes, stay AWAY from that shop. They are way too expensive and have absolutely NO IDEA what they're doing.
