OK... I got a ticket for going 51 in a 35. And there is NO WAY! I know I was going at least 35 or LESS! Because where he says he clocked me (with VASCAR)  :cookoo: I was less than 1000' from making a right turn onto another road  :bs:

There is no way I was going 50MPH just 800' from my making a complete right turn. This is CRAP! First off I think the VASCAR method of speed trapping is in NO WAY a legit way to gauge speed... They check you between 2 lines with a stop watch ???

Anyway.. I am just venting. What should I do to beat this? I already googled and printed out the location map showing where his trap was and where my turn was. Also.. He followed me for about a mile into another county, then stoped me ???

:flipoff:

Ideas? I know we have some good lawyers on here  :icon_mrgreen:

I dont know.. they are standard I think.. Usually white lines painted on the road. I am REALLY ticked off though because I KNOW for a fact that I was going 35MPH. Whats even worse is... I even knew he was there! because I saw him while I was on my way out of town.. he got me coming back in  :bs:

If they are relatively close together, then the margin of error is quite high.  If not, then it'll be lower.  However, you'd have to know the distance to be able to calculate the amount of error in mph for a given time error.

Well, The ticket says...

Miles timed: 103-9

Secs timed 2.62

But that looks like he is saying that he followed me 6 miles?

IDK  :cookoo:

VASCAR is a pretty weak method of speed detection.  That's why most states don't use it and on top of that have ruled it non-permissable to make a stop based of VASCAR.   However, if Pa. Allows VASCAR there's not a whole lot you can do :icon_confused: :icon_confused:  Go to court on it, like  you would any other ticket and hope the cop doesn't show.   Watch for him or the DA will try to pull a fast one.  I've had that happen before and I ended up screaming at the DA in the middle of court.  I got out of the ticket but had to pay a $500 dollar fine for contempt :icon_confused:  If the cop doesn't show to the hearing just make sure your attorney knows.  If you don't have one just respectfully ask to approach :thumb:

I don't know how you guys get tickets...only ticket i ever get is no proof of insurance...because I don't carry proof of insurance.

Fine for no insurance in Texas is crazy, though, so they usually think "oh shaZam! he's f%&ked, we'll let all the other shaZam! go and take it easy on him".

natedawg120

i get pulled all the time, but that is because my bike now looks like a guy who stunts all over town..... only one actual ticket though and that got thrown out.  It was a ticket for load exhaust, mine was/still is stock, I proved it and it was thrown out

Mak your lucky they don't haul the bike off for that. I got stopped once, I had run home for lunch got popped heading back to work my agent had just faxed my next set of verifications to my office and I left them laying on the desk when I headed out. Only reason I was believable and they didn't haul the bike off was because I had my last 6 or 7 years of cards in my wallet including the one which had expired the day before. No biggie to go down and pay my 10 court costs to get that one dismissed but he still wrote me for 10 over as well. When you get into the larger cities where the rate of riders without an endorsement or insurance has become a problem they just haul the bike and let you pay the impound and towing fee's. The law say's you must have them on you. This has happened to at least 1/2 dozen riders I know of.
Why didn't you just go the whole way and buy me a f@#king Kawasaki you bastards.

scottpA_GS

He just asked if I had registration and insurance. He never asked to see them  :dunno_white:

He also made me leave the side stand up and sit on the bike, holding it up for about 15 mins  :flipoff:

Normally thats 103 to 109 ft traveled and 2.62 seconds, which is like somewhere between 27 and about 29 mph.  I don't know how the cop did his math but i think he might have been wrong. :dunno_white:

plus if the officer was a fraction of a second off that can have a huge impact on the reading, VASCAR isn't a very viable way to catch speeders anymore.

in my particular area itwouoldn't really matter...we don't have an impound haha.  However, I've only tested it in my car...I've only ever been stopped on a bike once...because the guy we were riding with didn't have a tail light.

How's about ya post a link to the maps.google.com and we can all hybrid it to see what load the LEO pushed over on you ?

Maybe he saw you speeding two days ago and had an axe to grind ?

I've been pulled over twice on the bike. Both times there was a decent LEO, and I actually had done nothing wrong. This afternoon I _almost_ got clocked 55 in a 35. I wasn't riding irresponsibly, just didn't realize the posted was so low. (4 lane with 90% traffic doing +60)

What does that mean?

I do know that he scammed me BIGTIME! I KNOW! 100% that my Spedo indicated 35MPH .

sorry, about that. you can link to 'my maps' like this: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=110991532483178875916.00000111f7486a4cd2379&z=7&om=1

and then folks can follow where you've been. 'hybrid' is just another overhead view.

you can post and change routes with it now also, so if you find a favorite piece of road to play on, map it out for friends !

OK... After looking at my ticket..

In PA we have all kinds of fees added on our tickets. Like EMS, and CAT

The CAT fund is:

there to support the states Catastrophic Loss Benefits Continuation Fund. The surcharge can range from $30 upwards to as high as $300.

On my ticket it was $40.

Now..

I found that that fee cannot be applied to Motorcycles  :thumb:

Act 31 of 1992 amends Title 75 Sec. 6506, which prescribes the imposition of the CAT Fund surcharge. Effective with violations occurring on or after June 15, 1992, the surcharge will not apply to cases with the vehicle types "ATV" (all terrain vehicles), "MOPD" (moped), and "MC" (motorcycle). Therefore, cases that were entered with these vehicle types will not contain the CAT Fund field on the Charge Entry screen or the Final Charges and Fines screen.

From what most have told me, all they will do is refund me the $40.

But...

I think based on the fact that I 100% deny that I was speeding to begin with and the fact that the LEO wrongfully charged me a $40 fee that he should know not to.

This ticket should be thrown out! How can I use this info to ensure my ticket is voided? case dropped?

Being wrongfully charged a fee on a ticket sounds to me like it should be dropped But I have been told that they will only refund the $40 and I will still have to pay the rest???

Go the the courthouse and ask for the specifics about the readout you were given for your ticket.  If I am correct then you were not speeding at all, even according to the ticket.  specifically, what exactly is the measure of the distance you were clocked over.
