OK, this has been asked before, proby myself included, yes im lazy so im asking again...

what is the Widest rim capable of running in the stock GS swingarm? starting with:

Bandit 400    4"rim, direct swap using GS cush
]
89 GSXR 750  4.5"   direct swap, use gs cush, grind rear brake caliper mount

??  GSXR 750  5"   ??

??   GSXR ???  5.5"  shim sproket out, bend brake stay arm??????

* Rim must be 5 slot cush

PLZ fill in the gaps and correct miss information,   I thought i understood it all but would seem not,  i have   4 rear wheels, i wouldnt mind sacrificing one to be widened, or trading a couple for desired rim

I think the 89 gsxr rim is your best bet.
The newer gsxr rims won't be able to use the GS cush drive.
The only thing you need for the 89 rim is the brake rotor. I think any gsxr rotor will fit. I bought a set of Galfer wave rotors and the rear rotor fit. Even though it says it's for a 96-99 gsxr.
I haven't mounted it yet. But the GS cush drive, rubbers, bearings, center spacer, caliper and bracket can be used. The center spacer needs to be lengthened 3/8". And the caliper bracket needs some modifying. We'll see how well the chain lines up when it's on the bike.
Kozman wheels will widen the stock rim, but that's way pricey.
The Ninja 250 guys do it to run race rubber instead of bicycle tires.     :)

fzr400 guys run the 88-89 750 gsxr wheel too. thats what the one I bought was used  on. There's on on ebay now. Check the post about it on for sale forum here.

Check out my site as I have a how-to on installing the gsxr wheel. really simple install. You CAN use the center spacer from the gsxr wheel instead of extending the gs center spacer.

Mine's on its way...woo-hoo.

Yep I have the GSXR rear wheel on mine and install was quite simple. Longest time was waiting for my machine shop friend to take 10mm off the brake caliper mount. The rest just fits right in. Get some new bearings (for a GS) and have the GSXR ones pushed out and the GS ones put in the the GSXR center spacer in there and your ready to mount!

There are 2 on ebay right now, one might not be a 750 one and the other I am pretty sure is but just to make sure ask the seller about the cush spots, have to be 5 not 6.

The wheel I bought didn't have bearings or the center spacer.
So either I extend the GS part or buy a new gsxr spacer.
If you can get the numbers off the GS bearings, you can get new ones from a bearing shop. Much cheaper than the dealer.
I did that with swingarm bearings and they were less than half the dealer price.

ok, but i remember someone ran 5.5 or had  a rim widend to 5.5 or maybe it was 5"   I dont know what having a wheel cut and widend costs but i cant afford what some of these folks want for rims. as stated i have 4 rear rims of stock size, anyone need one?>

Bob's is I beleive 5" wide its a stock GS widened and it will cost ALOT more than a 4.5" GSXR rim.

Yeah, mine's a stocker widened to 5".  From reading about folk's experiences with adapting an older 4.5" Gixxer wheel (like Jason did) I'd have to say my recommendation would be to have patience, wait for the right Gixxer wheel to show up on Ebay & go with it.  Just to have my wheel widened by Kosman was 395 clams.  Add to that shipping both ways & repainting the wheel when you get it back.  Also gonna need new bearings if you powder coat it.
Wish I'd known about the Gixxer swap back when I made my decision.   :(
