GmanGS500

Hi,

On its way there anyway :)

New to forum, this is my new GS500 its got 1x44L box and 2x 42L cases.

Indicators at back just barely squeeze in between bike and boxes.

Ive done 100kms on it and yesterday it started stalling at lights I was reading old posts on here about that problem.

Its stalling at lights when comming to a stop, fuels leaking out of the carb drip hose after its been running and its blowing smoke.

It doesnt stall if you keep the throttle open (stopping it being flooded?) while at lights and etc.

So Im pretty sure its the float needle, I took it to the dealer and theyre pulling the carbs apart hopefully I'll know tomorrow.

Will my guess likely be right?

Many thanks,

Grant.

that ass end is bigger then the rest of the bike :o

GmanGS500

Hi,

I got the bike back and it was two small/tiny pieces of gasket paper like stuff stopping the needle closing.

Hope it runs fine from now  :)

Float needle, not jet needle, right?

Many, many years ago, a lot of gas filters had paper elements, and if you got water in the gas (through condensation or poor maintenance at the station) it would dissolve the element, maybe just partly, and the dissolved paper would clog up the carbs. Just a thought.

man that lugage is HUGE!Is it rideable when loaded?
PICS are GONE never TO return.

Does the bike try to wheelie when the cases are fully loaded ?  :thumb:

GmanGS500

Hi,

I havent tried the bike fully loaded w/ gear yet so Im not sure, the dealership said to be cautious of what/how much I load into the cases cause the GMW is 380kg.

The soft luggage looks nice but I had to have hard luggage Im picky like that :)

I just use the 2 panniers day to day, I think naked bike w/ 2 panniers looks nicer cause a single box spoils the lines of the bike, panniers dont.

I bought the box as well cause they needed to mount a baseplate to fit the sideracks so I thought why not get the matching box while I can for trips.

I'll take a photo of how I have it day to day when I get a chance :)

Where did you get the tail box and mounting bracket?  I couldn't understand if you were saying it's from a dealer or what.

What brand is it?

GmanGS500

Hi,

My dealer tracked it all down for me.

Its a Nonfango setup, all parts are by Nonfango.

The mount for the topbox is a generic/universal mount for many bikes, the side mounts for the panniers are 89-00 model gs500 specific side racks.

The dealer had his people do some modification and making brackets (which dispalced the rear grabrail) to make it all fit on my 07 bike and make it more stable.

I was lucky I got the last of some old stock the supplier had, Nonfango dont make side mounts for GS500s 2000 and onward as far as I know, all the parts came w/ 2002 catalogues listing 1988-2000 as all thats available under the "Suzuki GS500" in the parts table, so Im assuming its all old stock.

The basic rundown of what that setup has is:

Panniers
2x Nonfango TTL - Side Case
2x Nonfango Side Support

Topbox
1x Nonfango TTT - Topcase
1x Nonfango Pac Base

To mount the side cases I needed the universal "Pac Base" as the side supports have to clip into the base, theres no "side only" option for GS500s by Nonfango.

It also needed a custom bracket made that fits under the seat to help support and fit the older model ones to the new bike.

Whole panniers/topbox setup came to $980 AUD, installed and everything including the extra modification.

I looked at a setup by Krauser which was well over $1400 AUD for 2 panniers and 2 mounts alone, no top box and not installed or even delivered so Im happy w/ what I got.

But I do know its all old parts/stock so that might make it hard to trackdown/recreate, just lucky my dealer found a solution for me. :)

Yogi2795

Hi all, just thought I'd post up a pic of my GS fitted with its throw over soft panniers and its Ventura Rack and 51 lt bag. I'm 95 kgs and the bike handles very nicely with the panniers and bag loaded. I did a 700 ikm round trip a month or so ago and am about to do a 2000 km round trip in the coming weeks. The only problem I have had has been with the panniers pressing on the stock rear indicators, so i have made some extension brackets for the indicators and the panniers now fit beautifully without impacting upon the indicators.

This is a link to the blog explaining the extension bracket manufacture and fitment:

I've got the cortech sport bags...a little smaller than the rest of the stuff on this thread. I rather liked them, the whole setup ran me under $150 and was fine for a week trip, even without expanding the size bags. Still got mid 60s on the freeway. Definitely recommend.

mister

Anyone with pics of Panniers on their bikes. Interested to see how you have them set up and know if you had to make Adjustments to the rear indicator like Yogi did.

I like Ivany's setup, Touring bags, yes, but on the smaller side. Where did you get those and if ya don't mind me asking, how much were they?

Those hardbags GSman has must've cost a pretty penny- I like them; I'm sure they could fit plenty of stuff. Matches the paint scheme quite nicely.

plewis51

Wow that is a huge setup on the GS!! Lots of storage room in those boxes though. I do however like the Cortech sport bags that is shown on Ivany's ride. In fact I'm searching for them right now because I will probably pick up a set of side bags, they look great on the black/silver bike! :)

Toogoofy317

Here's Flick on shopping day! I have aftermarket turn signals so no issues there but I don't think I had issues with stock and the staps fit under the seat for some security.
