If its straight steel ... nothing like muriatic acid. $3 a gallon. At 1/10 dilution it will still eat up rust better than this.
I can also assure you, vinegar will eat aluminum albeit slower than muriatic acid even diluted 10 to 1.
Cool.

Muriatic acid is also NASTY NASTY stuff, it will f%$k you up.

I bought 3 gals of vinegar, at 2.50 a gallon. Full concentrate, I have my old yoshimura that I posted a pic of earlier soaking in it.  After sitting for 4-5 hours, I took a brush to it and lightly scrubbed and all the rust was just GONE!

Ill take some more pics of it when its all rust free. Definetly easier than going at it with a wire wheel and it will get into all the hard to reach places.

Im gonna cut a trashbag and tie it around the slip joint area and let vinegar soak in there to free up the joint later on.

A mixture of sulfuric acid and thiourea will take just about any oxidation off of any metal. Mind you, thiourea has been known to cause some pretty crazy health problems

Muriatic is not 1/2 as bad as its smell.
You dont want to put anything on your exhaust, sanding or blasting is best. Acid is ideal for stuff you cant touch, like inside your tank. Which I'd cut open if I had to nowadays.
Cool.

It is working just great on the exhaust for me. Ive just been letting it sit, removing it, spraying it off with a light high pressure stream of water and then drying it and putting it back in the tank.

The slipjoint is soaking right now and hopefully I can seperate the exhaust tomorrow so I can soak the whole header.
