I have a 1994 gs500e. I want to race it but the only racing around here is Drag racing(bracket). Has anybody ever tried it. If so how did the bike do? What mods did the bike have? Any input would be appecated. Thank you

Jay_wolf

This bike doesnt go fast in a straight line lol , theyre for the twistys ideally , if u turn up with a gs , u wont win , i think thats safe enough to say

I should also say that this would be 1/8 mile instead of the 1/4 mile. And it is also braket racing so you are actualy running against a clock also.

i think he is ignoring you,  let him find out the hard way that the gs is crap for drag.  but it sure would be funny to see one stretch and with one of those drag wheelie tail thingies on it.

He's not ignoring anybody, bracket racing is a handicapped race. You can take your GS and run a 10 second car, the car just leaves after you and has to play catch up without breaking out of his "dialed time". I say go have fun. That is what is about.

i say go for it if it floats your boat!

however, yes understand your not going to win against most of the competition.

in fact, i would guess you would lose to everysingle motorcycle on the strip for sure.

as for against cars, you may actually have a chance against some. keep in mind, some people bring some sorry cars to the strip just for fun as well. not everyone who goes to the strip is looking to win and be the best.

however, if your going to stand any chance, you will have to put 120% effort into mods and your technique. you may need to do some serious racing mods. i have seens GS racers go as far as drilling dozens of holes in the frame to lighten weight. there is a pic somewhere of a gs with a turbo on it. add some NOS to the twin? just be prepared to replace a crank someday or at least get some metal gaskets or something. i think it would be a cool experiment.

like i said your technique will have to be on time as well. the gs can make some power, but you really have to want it...BAD, lol.

Go for it.  Bracket racing is more about the rider and consistency then low ets.

Nothing wrong with drag racing the ole GS. Ive done both track days and drag days, the track day is more fun but the drags are a good laugh. I pulled a best of 14sec flat for the 1/4 mile sure I was the 2nd slowest out there  but it was a lot of fun. For those out there that say no its a waste of time Blah Blah this and that why not give it try before you arm chair criticize.  :thumb:

Ok then , go for it ? the gs is ace on a track day , but i wouldnt drag it personally

OK now that I have that outta my system. If you launch a GS hard enough with say 190 pounds on the back of it,the crankshaft will go pop.your going to need some lower gearing.Probably like 14t front 47r.
PICS are GONE never TO return.

Hey Im not looking to win every race. Im looking to have some fun and learn. Like the guy said earlier its a handicapped race not heads up.

scratch

Get your weight over the rear wheel, slide back in the seat, that'll keep the tire in contact [with the track] better.  Lower the front end (slide the forks through the triples), to help keep it from wheelying.  Lower the rear tyre pressure, and put the front at 33psi.  And change the sprocket gearing (the 14/47 sounds good).

There's one member here that drags the '81-82 GS450, in Georgia or thereabouts.  I think it's Lizard.  If you search "aluminum ignition cover", he makes covers (see avatar).

Why not? RS125 puts around 30+ bhp. And is very light. So with some gearing mods it can drag with gs500 :)

go enjoy your self . i had a stock 05 gs500f and i was down to 14.4 in a 1/4 .  you guys that say dont waste your time READ what he says first.  its not a grudge/heads up /drag what ya brought. its BRACKET racing . he could walk away with the hole thing on  a damn moped . its about being  the same every race. if he is so tuned in he cant lose . if he has 14.756 and he runs a 14.8 every race  and leaves at say  .3 ( if  its a 000 tree and not a 500 tree) then the other guy better  tree it and not miss a gear.  have fun enjoy it !

RobTheTyrant

my best with a .532 tree was 12.998 sec.  took me all day to break 13 seconds and I was still getting stomped by my bros FZ6 running LOW 11's  I think he was at 11.08x at his fastest.

when I started this topic. I did not think I would receive all the negative coments that I got. I would like to thank everyboby that made positive coments. To all the negative coments life is more than winning its about having fun and learning as I go. I guess I was raised to believe if you dont have something good to say about someone dont say nothing at all.

Jay_wolf

If your refering to my comments ,i simply said , its not a drag bike ,its a twisty machine ,

I define drag as fast , intense speed ,which teh gs doesnt do , sorry if u took offence dude
