I was wondering if we could replace a tire with large width( like 150/70-17 or 160/70-17) as suppose to 130/70-17, Please advice..........

With the stock wheel, you can run a 150/60 or 150/70, but it will pinch the tread a bit and you won't be able to get all the way to the side of the tire.  Therefore, you will get some funny tendencies when leaned way over after you put some serious corner-carving miles on it.

140/70 will also work.

It's not worth it in my opinion. If you want s bigger rear tire, better to go with a new wheel or bike all together.

the max quoted is a 160  on a 4.5 rim , and not alll work ,

does make the gs look alot better

i like the narrower tires simply because it transits faster but it does not look as good as the wider ones

Unless you want to do a lot of tinkering with wheel replacement and possible having to mess with the swingarm... I would go with a 140.  If you really want a fat tire, then just hold on until you're ready for your bike upgrade

I ran a 150/70 Lasertec and am now running a 150/70 RoadAttack on the stock 3.5" wheel on my 02 GS500.  No problems and no alterations for the Lasertec, but had to bend the brake torque rod a bit for good clearance for the RoadAttack.  Ran both with 110/80 Lasertec fronts.

Put 10k miles on the Lasertec and now have 7k+ on the RoadAttack with much more to go.  Both tires were approved for fitment on the 3.5" wheel by their makers.  My 150/70 RoadAttack:



Will run either another RoadAttack rear or a pair of Avon Roadriders next depending on the milage I get from the RoadAttack.  Will run a 140/70 rear with a 110/80 front if I go to the Roadriders.

currently I had a 180-60-17 on my project bike.Sold the wheel and tire.I used an 88 gsxr swing arm,and a 90 gsxr 750 wheel.If I win an ebay auction,I'm going with a 200-60-17 or bigger.Can't give part specs until I win the auction. And no,I'm not buying a big wheel kit likes offered for the busa.Thanks to Jim Knopf on here.

A 140/80 will work on the GS, it's made for a 3.5" wheel.  I ran 140/80 rears in the Avon AV36 and the Avon AV46 sport touring radials.  Dunlop D205 would be my last choice, I like the AV46 in that size.
