Hoping someone can help me out with this.  Hate to take this to the dealer to find out I did something stupid. 

Have a 07 GS500F with 102 miles on it. (yes I am a newbie to the extreme)  To spare ya'll the gory details, suffice to say the bike has sat for 4 or 5 weeks.  Went to start it on Sunday... took quite a few tries to get it going, then it'd die.  (More gory details of time on the driveway. Then sitting in case I flooded it, start it, yada yada yada).  I'm now to the point where it'll start but it idles rougher than anything (like varies up to 1,000 rpms).  Then when I take the choke completely off and give it any throttle at all; it dies. 

Spousal unit is giving me a hard time about not riding it and this is what happens.  (My avatar sums up my side of that conversation.)  So any advice you could give me to either spare me the cost of a dealer visit or at least make me feel like I tried to fix it would be greatly appreciated..      

Drain the tank and carbs and look for gunk or water. Fill with fresh go juice. Add a little stabil just for the fun of it.

If you even _think_ of letting a carburated doo-hickey sit for more than a week it should have a stabilizer in the gas.

More than a month (planned) and it's time to treat the gas and oil, add a battery tender.

More than 3 months (planned) and it's time to drain the gas, stabil the oil, get the tires off the ground and add a battery tender.

Geez, dude sounds like something the dealer should help you with - assuming you haven't flooded it, nor run the battery down. And even then seems like your dealer could give friendly advice to a rookie ...

Make sure the battery is charged, and you're following the owner's manual on how to start a brand new bike

 if your a little low on fuel in the tank, make sure your on reserve. if the problem goes away, your just low on fuel. at least thats how it is on my 94 gs. not too sure on the newer models

Didn't realize that a month of sitting is too long for it.  Saw in the manual about prepping it when it's gonna sit, but figured they meant more like months (plural).  So that helps.   I checked the fuel and all I can say is a gauge would be nice, but looked about at half (in the dark of my garage).   Sounds like I should try to figure out how to get it to a dealer (borrow a trailer yada).  I feel like all they see is dollar signs when I walk through the door.     Thanks everyone.
