this store is going to charge me 400 bucks for my first service. is this good? my friend can replace the oil in it but i think it needs more than just that. what else do i need on my first service and how hard or easy is it to do?

Neo420

Im not positive but are't they gonna just check the valve clearance and probably re-torque the head and a few other things? spose an oil change and air filter check would be in order also.... anybody else know?  :dunno_white:

Suzuk-E

That sounds about right. Service + Parts.

cerius

well should i have my friend service it or have the dealership service it?

blue05twin

NO thats way to much I only paid $210 for my fist service.  But if thats the only suzuki shop you really don't have much choice.

Here's a link to the intial service check list.  You can do it yourself it just takes time.

Yeah I'm old mom & pop stores or local shops or independant shops.  I just checked and I mis quoted you on my first service.  I paid $125 for my first service, Jon paid $240 for his.  Strange thing was same bikes and same dealer.

I was just at my local Suz dealer and they were actually doing a first service on a 500..........$145
:thumb:

Shop around and find a nice little local shop to become a loyal customer of.   It pays off after time :thumb:

We did the first service, and then I had a mom & pop shop do a check over and another oil change for less than $100 at around 1k miles.

:woohoo:

cerius

yeah i think thats what i will do, do it with my friend then have the stuff we can't do have them do it, and check over our work.

ohgood

THere isn't much to do. Do a search and you'll find the recommended services listed with mileage.

Keep the tank full, good rubber and brake pads, change the oil and check the valves.

It's a machine to be ridden. Don't let the dealer convince you they have special wands and magic beans that make it better.

Welcome :)

while im rebuilding my bike i dropped my engine off at the shop.  He tuning the carbs doing a checking the shims and replacing the clutch and a few other things.  He charging me around $200.. So i would say that  yea $400 is a little much for a service that you could pretty much do yourself.

I thought that there is a issue with the first service and having to have it done by a certified Suzuki mechanic for some warranty BS, thought I remember that being discussed at one point

i got my first service for free. they "supposedly" did it when they replaced my head gasket, but who knows if they actually did anything  :dunno_white:.

cerius

i will call the dealership i got it from and see how much they will charge.

frankieG

some cost more because the warranty the service and are authorized dealerships.  having said that if your bike is running well and you have no issues then a oil and filter should be ok.  any monkey can check the bike and bolts, it all depends on your comfort level.   only fools tear new bike motors, fiddle with brakes and such based on a web site or manual.  also your insurance may not cover tim the toolman style home jobs
