That's muffler looks odd.

I wonder what the weight is ?

I have the typical V&H, and wondered what a larger canister would look like. Thanks to a few folks here, I'll stick with the V&H.

I was looking at the bikes at work (machinists, we all own mc's) the other day. the differences on STOCK bikes seem to be preportional.

the hd's have low and long pipes. the gs stocker and V&H matches. the kawi bruiser/cruiser is a little heavy looking but sleek.

Putting something this large on a smaller bike almost makes it look more like a liter bike. I'd actually prefer a shorty, but that's just me.

Do the R6/R1 canisters sound good on the GS ? I wondered if there was enough flow through it for it to sound proper at higher rpm's.

The inline 4's always have that 'scream' at higher rpms, but there is likely a good deal more flow compared to a 2 banger at 4-5 thou less rpm.

Anywho, fun projects. Enjoy the  results :)

Not true. I have TIG'd mild onto 316. If it just has to stick together, any metal can be welded to any metal. Problems arise when you need specific properties such as strength or corrosion resistance.

Mild steel to stainless is actually MIG weldable. I made ~15 flanges that had shiny pipes and ugly ass round plates for the pipe. However, you cannot weld any metal to any metal. Aluminum and steel - excellent example. There is rods that will weld them, however as soon as it cools, the parts will separate. They expand at hugely different rates, and they cannot stay together at the cold state.
Cool.

For those who have corrected me on this.I believe my IMM teacher may have been speaking of structural welds. The class he was teaching was very out dated,so I'm sure his knowledge was out dated. The only reason we touched on welding was in case we needed to send something out to be welded.Oh,I guess I better clear this up now.IMM=Industrial Maintinance Mechanic

1- for welding ... no it can not be welded the midpipe tube on the R6 can is titanium (i think) and in the shop try to weld with 2 different electrical welder and with GAS (acetileno) and non of the welder could get that thing weld on ..

2- sound . the sound its very cool in idle sounds like an big bike. riding at low rpm sound very cool ! like a original R6 Yamaha when hit the full gas sound pretty much like original CAN but a littler more agresive.  i will take video clip so you can listen to !

Just got an R6 exhaust and I just can't figure out how to install it. The diameter of the r6 slip-on is seems much larger than the GS mid pipe. And the angle seems wrong. I'm starting to wonder if I should just sell it and keep the stock can.
I like the look of this huge can, but I'm not sure it DIY job to install it. I've never welded before. Any advice is appreciated.

Yea ... dude, I spend hours @ junkyards, dealers and stores ... they are all annoyed with me measuring stuff.
Very very few of em work without modding stuff.

I have a slip on can in Ti for sale, and sorry I cant quite fix your problem unless you are in my area. And get it mangled up by welding stuff on it.

Anyway Ti can blue to flame color brand new oval, direct fit on 01+ GS.
This is the post for that.

I think you should put on a bigger can.  Bigger than the actual bike.
