Had a little run in with a car...now what?

So I had a nice little collision with a car in San Francisco and now I'm sorta wondering what next. Basicly I was going through on green, car runs red right in front of me THEN slams on brakes for no reason AND swerves to the right and clips my front tire right as I'm putting my feet down as I'm coming to an emergency stop, puts the bike down on the right side with me on top of it. Dude runs.

The damage is very minor. I busted my right mirror and that little stator cover on the right side. I pulled the cover off and it was pretty much just that sticker that got thrashed, the actual cover is completely fine. A little ding on the muffled and that's pretty much it. The only thing is I noticed when I rode it home that night, and this afternoon when I was giving it a test ride to see if it's ok to ride to work, that there is a little more vibration in the engine then usual. The idle is a hair rougher and around 5-6k RPM it sims to be a much higher frequency vibration then usual. Riding the bike is fine, tracks fine, turns fine, we're all good there.

Any ideas of stuff to check out? maybe fuel in the air filter? Carbs got knocked out of whack? Any ideas would be great.

Check behind that cover to see any damage to pulse generator ,check that connections are tight and intact

count your blessing and change yor pants  would be the first step i would do.    Then get a new mirror and ride it for a couple of days to let everything settle.   then after a week of riding and you still have issues with the high revs  get it check out.  As far as the vibration goes i have no idea.  AS long as you arent having speed wobbles or any problems with the allignments of your forks  i dont know what to tell you.

Hit and Runs suck.  Just be glad it wasn't worse.  Check all the engine mounts then check under the generator cover to make sure everything is ok :thumb:

Killermarmot

Yup generator looks all good, tightened up engine mounts, new mirror mounted. So I guess I'll give it a go to work tomorow and see how she feels.

Check the runout of your front wheel.  You can do this by lifting the front off the ground and sighting down the rim while you spin the wheel.  Does it wobble?
Every zero you add to the tolerance adds a zero to the price.

If the product "fails" will the product liability insurance pay for the "failure" until it turns 18?

Yeah extended version of the story a good semaritan chased the guy and got his plate # but it was out of state and a rental and the CHP couldn't really do anything cause i wasn't hurt. Actually the part that pissed me off the most was that I had gotten off work early and then BAM!  The other thing that was sorta irritating was the cars driving around me on either side while I'm trying to pick my bike up...and they're all honking and yelling out their windows.

I had little bruise on my left knee where it hit tank, right ankle was a little sore from the bike falling on it and my wrist was a little whack for a couple days but I'm ok now. I think my gear absorbed alot of the damage. boots were all scuffed up and gouged, gloves scuffed on the palms. I'm just thankful I wasn't hurt and I was able to ride home. I rode today for maybe 30 min and the bike feels fine. I think the vibration maybe just be me being hyuper sensitive to everything. I realized it's gunna take a little time to get confident again and comfratable. My movements are twitchier then tehy used to be. I'm just going to take it very slow and take the train to work till I'm comfratable again.

What ... rental car companies have to be insured to the gills ... they will find the driver and charge him once you get the police report handed to them. Anyway, they can and will find his ass and get it locked up be it in any of the 50 states. They also have insurance companies that will pay you just to keep you from suing their ass and getting them in court.

Also ,wouldnt u leave them a copy of your credit card , and Photo Drivng licience ,so find the rental , the day of the accidernt ,

coz if u borrowed it , u wouldnt have 2 give it back if they didnt have details about yourself ,. i mean ,you wont just hand over a car to anyone

I will mention i dont live in the old Us , and i dont have a Car Liecience ,but i would imagine thats how it works

Someone got the plate, and it's a rental!? Oh I SO agree with the others....there has to be SOMETHING that can be done! If you have full insurance coverage, you can give them this info and let them deal with it. If you don't have full coverage, a good start might be to send a copy of the police report along with a nice letter to the rental company letting them know what their renter did, that you have a witness to the hit and run, that you were injured and your property was damaged, and that you're examining your legal options.

My buddy is highway patrol and that's who I wound up having the report with (If it had been SFPD I wouldn't have even gottten that) and basicly when it comes back registered to a rental here's what happens. california highway patrol (CHP) calls the hometown the rental agency is in. in this case las vegas. Vegas PD then goes to the rental place and finds where in nevada the car is registered. then vegas pd calls the pd of wherever that is, then that pd goes to the rental place and gets the guy's info. THEN if I can ID the guy, which I can't, they might do something against the guy himself. For a non-injury hit and run none of this is going to happen. I'll probably never hear about it again. and the damage is only like 40 bucks so it's not even worth getting insurance involved, cause yes they would go after him, if there were damages. Originaly I was at SFPD and they weren't even going to give me a report but they found out it happened on a freeway onramp so I got CHP. non injury hit and runs happen dozens of times a day in SF i wasn't bleeding so they're not going to do anything

got to the police station and make a formal complaint.  if you are injured no matter how little the HR becomes felony hit and run.  don't play down the injury play it up.  don't take no from the police.  once the report is done the rental company will cave and give you all the info.  if  you don't get satisfaction from the driver go straight to the rental company.  this all depends on how much effort you wish to put into it.

I got $5800 for my injury and time off from work and all the court time etc, and $1800 for the bike for my 1997 accident.
I also got $1400 for the "blind lady backed over my bike in the parking lot of a autoparts store on July 4th" last year. Both cases damage was under $40.
Its $40 only when I say its $40, else it can be 2 grand. I'd get an estimate at the nearest BMW ducati bimota stealer and hand them a bill for blueprinting and balancing the engine since you have more vibration now.
SFO, sheite is pricey. About time your Las Vegas rental fool figured that out.

I can definitely sympathize with you on this.  I got cut off on the highway and lowsided my bike, but despite having multiple witnesses it's starting to look as though due to the lack of contact between my bike and the guy's vehicle, his insurance is going to deny any responsibility, and unless I take them to small claims court I'm going to be out of luck.  I had only liability coverage so my insurance agency isn't doing jack to help me out.

Yep, you scratched your pinky  :) :flipoff:  Normally, I'd not be for making the guy's life hard, but the arsehole ran, and didn't even ask if you were ok, so screw him/her/it.
