How goes the flooding in London and the surronding areas?  Is it as bad as they say it is?

Im 40 Miles Away , And I Live Next To The Sea . i can see it from my window , and its raining , no floods yet
Twas Reading the paper *daily Mirror* and some old boy and his son was trying to stop the basement of there pub getting flooded , they got a electric shock from the water pump  and died .
Its getting bad around here

Oh and the 17th teenager in london this Year was killed yesterday , got chased by 8 Hoods (Hoods are little rudeboys , i suppose ud call them Jocks, and he was chased into a park , and shot in the face , he was 16 years old , Its either been stabbings or shootings ,16 boys and 1 girl , )  Its gettinfg Nasty In London

I no alot of these gangsta wanna be's  , they have guns , they can get hold of guns , i was offered a gun once , i said no , because i dont want one , and is like 15 years for having one , people here wanna try and be the big man ,times are changing ,not for the best

Flood situation is not at all good, we had dryest ever April, normally a wet month and almost continuous rain since second week in May. Many places have had a normal month's rainfall in a day, sometimes more that once but last week the area around the river Severn in the centre-west of England had a month's rain in an hour

A lot of homes without power and ironically no fresh water as the pumping stations have been flooded themselves with polluted water so water is being delivered in bottles and small tankers.

I am quite a way from this but we have had a bit of local "flash" flooding on a small scale but being a coastal dweller one keeps a wary eye on these things.

It peed down last night but is now warm and sunny so I'm off for a ride !

glad to hear for the most part you guys are ok....     As far as your crime rate is going....Does that have a lot to do witht eh imigration problem you guys are dealing with.  I had a decently long conversation about a week ago with a patron who was visiting from over there.  He mention you guys were haveing a huge influx of imigrants  who were causing the crime rate to skyrocket and the health care system to fall.

no m16?  . i've read that the "standerd", as you call them,  will now be aloud to carry stun guns  . just send in Robocop he will take care of the Yardies 

The problem is because of the Eu , now they dont need Visa's if there from it , consider 50 countrys in it , in southend ,alot of Polish people .same with london , Alot of polish in london dont seem to relise how expensive it is over here ,they cant pay for rooms ,so thry sleep in the toilets ,and if someone goes on there patch , they fight, some polish dude was stabbed to death because he was defending his place to kip . its not good .

as far as the gun thing goes...thank god for concealed weapons permits.    After i got stabbed in cleveland  i started carrying a knife with me at all times... When i turned 21 i got my concealed weapons permit...Thanks to certain laws i can carry in 19 other states  with more being added along the way.

Armaments for Police vary quite a bit from area to area, normally street "Bobbies" or community offers etc would only carry a baton and mace or pepper spray, some have Tazar stun guns.

Police stations normally have an armoury so that officers can be armed quickly if required and there are a lot more armed response units than a few years back but guns are not normally visible. I live in a Port town which handles huge passenger numbers so it gets similar policing to airports. It is not uncommon to see police on the port carrying H&K automatic weapons. I have seen this at london and some provincial railway stations as well depending upon events current to the times.

In "sensitive" areas the normal cop on the street is armed but this is not generally visible, this would be around places like Embassys and govt buildings. In the now famous Lybian embassy seige that took place in the 80s, amongst the hostages were the local bobby who was armed, not searched by his captors and stayed armed throughout untill the boys in black balaclavas dropped through the windows.

Our new PM has started to drop references to "targets" as the current threat is simply against anybody and everybody, recent events seem to prove that. The talk now is of protecting "our crowded places" which might be code for expect more armed police especially in town and city centres.

Its wrong to assume the whole UK is affected by these issues, they are generally contained in the inner-city and other areas affected by social problems such as unemployment, poor quality housing and racial tension and I think this applies throught the developed world. I am fortunate in living in a quiet semi-rural area that sees very little crime, we have no EU immigrants and certainly no gun/gang/drug problems in my locality but 30 mins to the East I have Manchester and 30 mins to the West is Liverpool. They are both major Cities and they both have their fair degree of social problems crime and violence. Just last week I was working in Birmingham and I stayed in a Hotel in Aston just outside the center. I was advised not to leave the building after dark on foot as criminals were watching guests leave and following them with the intention of mugging them.

Id Agree , in areas where ur from , quiet nice , people , i live in essex ,about 40 miles from london , and we have a outbreak of polish , and people get mugged , atacked , al that ,
