1st valve clearance check

I just finished my first valve clearance check and quite pleased. It put it off for about 1000KM out of sheer fear that I'd fudge my bike up... but once I got started it went quickly and everything is in spec.

I created a false alarm (noob moment) where I thought I'd have to replace all my shims when I mixed up .002 (inches) as being just below the minimum required size (.03mm), when in fact it was perfectly in line (.051mm)!  lol

Specs at just under 8000K

Intake:
Right: .051mm (.002in)
Left: .051mm (.002in)

Exhaust:
Right: .051mm (.002in)
Left: .038mm (.0015in)

I did the valve adjustment as per the method used in Kerry's (Great) video , so I didn't rotate the engine via the signal generator (As stated on PG90 of Clymer manual), but rather the rear wheel. I hope this doesn't cause a problem?

Lastly, My Left Exhaust measurement  (.038) is getting kind of close to min spec... I can fit a .051 feeler in there with a little more effort than the valves, so I assume it should last another 6000km? (bad question, I know)

Cheers,
J

Everything is well with your clearances ,yes just check them next 6000km
Today I replaced all 4 shims on friends GS and one exhaust valve was left tighter than 0.03 because of wrong ordered shim size
he will ride it like that until he gets correct one :dunno_white:
