This is kinda sad, but I am considering a Katana. I think its combo of reasonable sporting intentions and touring capability would be quite nice...
I am startingt o sound 45 rather than 19. That aint good

jtenright, just for the record you might want to check the prices of the Buells before putting them in a diffrent price category than an R6.

If you love the sound of a V, go for a duc.

Ah, the Ducatti...
That is ideal, but the repair bills are way beyond what I could afford as a student. I think when I graduate in 2 years it will be my gift to myself.

V-Strom 650 or the FZ6...both are do-anything go-anywhere all around sport/tour/commute bikes...both look to be comfortable, plenty of power, affordable, lots of aftermarket, both in the same $$ ballpark.  1st choice right now is the FZ, but it may come down to the $ deal.

Triumph Bonneville T100 for the street, and probably a used Aprilia RS 250 to play with on the track.

Hey..what wrong with 45 :guns:  :nana:

As I'm not in the US, I might just get that fully faired GS500 everyone talked about.  I also like the look of the V-Strom 650 (or the 1000 if the budget will stretch that far).

A couple of you guys mentioned sound.  I absolutely fell in love with the sound of Triumph triples    ... I bought a Sprint ST; you can get a slightly different version of the same motor in a Daytona or the really really cool-looking Speed Triple (only reason I didn't get a Speed Triple was that I wanted some wind protection).  I put the Triumph race can on there and the thing positively bellows ... sounds like a big V-twin crossbred with a small I4, on crack.  Really inSANE howl.  I'm very happy so far; compared to the old GS it is glassy smooth and blistering fast to boot.

I dont want a Ducati because they cost a fortune to get and to maintain and I dont really like the looks that well. SV 650, or that new Yamaha 600 is sweet too.

I think a Honda VFR or a Bandit 1200S would be nice for a next bike. I ride a lot of highway miles + commuting a lot so I need a bike that's comfortable at high speeds. It also shouldn't be too wide because I lanesplit almost on a daily basis.

HONDA RUNE!!!
THe most bad ass looking stock bike around. If only it had a 225 width rear tire! It reminds me of like an late 60's Lincoln Continental witht he suicide doors, but slammed, and chopped. What a sick bike

O.K., I have to confess...my next bike may be...a pocket bike!

Next bike at this point most likely another GS500 to replace the one stolen. I am keeping my options open even though I loved my GS500. I would like to do some serious looking before getting another bike. Iif anyone has any ideas I would like to hear them. Here is the criteria........

I am NOT an experienced rider
I like the naked bikes
I have short legs (I am only 5'3")

Thanks for any and all help.

Unfortanatly, you happen to live in the US so your choice of newbie freindly models is very limited. I used to have a knighthawk 250 and it was okay and would make a good learner but the GS will keep you entertained much longer.

Low mileage 750 Nighhawk or VX800. Or maybe just trick-out the ol' GS500.

CBR-1000 Would also be nice.... seems indestructible and is also nice on the holidays. I would travel as far as I could through Germany and maintain high cruising speeds.
