I just bought lucky a 1972 VW Bug today for a very good price ($400.00) it is in pretty good shape except a few cosmetic problems.  I love everything about this board and would like to find one simular for the Bugs(I know she would)   . Does anyone have suggestions about where she might be able to go?  BTW I will have pics posted later for everyone to see.

Not a whole lot get this some guy on the board here locally is wanting to trade his 84 Yamaha FJ600 for a running VW Beetle.  I didn't realize these cars were in such demand. BTW the vwvortex is for all new vw's instead of the classic's, thanks Rich :thumb:

I am serious... a 912 motor will fit with no mods and it will make it into one hell of a performer...
Look in VW's and dune buggies ... has interesting info.
Cool.

Thats something we will have to look into doing, what about the tranny do you have to change it as well or does the 912 work with the bug's tranny.  Lucky is going to call it Frankenbug when she is done with all the mods to it.

No please... It will fit just fine... but you dont want to put a $4000 motor in a $400 car... and a 912 will set you back 4K easy... Put a 1835 in it and run the crap out of it... hey actually there is a huge set of standard mods on them... Check the VW's and dunebuggies mags.
Cool.

I have always wanted to retrofit a porsche flat 6 turbo engine into a beetle  , or a karman ghia - not the beetle-style, the 70's ones. ;)   The other thing I wanted to do was to gut the car, drop in a small block v8 in the "trunk," but there would be some slight problems with weight distribution. :?  Then the whole part about you'd need to completely retrofit the suspension, put in a compatible tranny, etc, etc... :o

Anyway pretty decent looking vw you got there moose.  :thumb:  For $400, running(?), can't beat the price.  My first car was a '67 beetle.  It was in pristine condition, until my brother got ahold of it. :x

Then you might be interested in the website that Rich posted it is for water-cooled VW's.

The 911's 6 wont fit wihtout chopping off the entire back 1/2 of the bug... And the weight distribution, the 912 is perfect... They have recently started making huge shrouds with that mondo fan that forces air into the thing... They claim it will never over heat even with that 2500 cc built up one. They have also claimed the 2500 will outlast the smaller over bores... I have seen 1835's with over 100K miles on them and showed no signs of giving up. The newer gen metallurgy and durability mods and innovative parts designs have made the bug's life and reliabiulity pretty much par with any new car... The trick is to make sure the thing dont blow a huge hole in your bank acct....

I think the only VW I would ever buy is an air cooled one, or an MKI GTi Rabbit. I love those stupid little cars.

No, you had it right  - It has an air-cooled forum...  It better, considering there's a Bugatti forum... and a "books and literature" forum... and a "pets" forum....  What happened to my oatmeal?
