I've been checking out all over the place for places to buy tires from.  I can get sport demons from a local shop for 130 for the rear and about 100 for the front but they put them on for free if I get it through them.  I've checked out tires unlimited and a bunch of other shops online the past couple days.  Who are the reputable shops that are reasonable for shipping???  Also, would it be worth it to have a shop change a tire for me, or is it that big of a deal that I'm not going to want to do it?  If you could post links of the sites too that would be great.

I usually buy from http://www.swmototires.com/

but at those prices its actually a pretty good deal, they are about 30 dollars high for the rear, but then you factor in having to pay to have them mounted and you are going to pay like $20 per tire so at $230 installed I would say go for it.

I get my tires from MAW, or parts unlimited through Ebay.  As far as mounting goes, I take both wheels off, pull the rotors, and take them to a local tire shop for mounting.  Cost $7 for both.

When I bought tires last summer, I could not find a reasonable place to have them mounted.  I ended up paying $35 each for mounting.  I bought them from MAW at a great price, but the mounting was ridiculous.

Since then, I have done some reading about mounting them yourself.  My brother (I found out later) has always done his tires himself.  That's definitely the way to go.  Tire irons are cheap and sweat is free!  Even if you can't get it done, you're not out much money.

Yeah, same situation here. I don't have the room , so I just gotta bite the bullet and get them at a local shop. The money I save on online purchasing is used on mounting anyway and it works out about the same, except I have my local shop like me for being a loyal customer which can help in a jam.

I went to a shop over by where I live...cost me $227 to buy and mount them...and that with them takin the rims off the bike...they were sport touring tires...a kendra and a duro...not sure exactly how good those tires are but they seem pretty sticky...well sticky enough for me.

Last several street sets came from www.RonAyers.com and my track tires come from www.stickboyracing.com With 4 bikes, I mount and balance my own. The equipment has already paid for itself.
Common sense in not very common.

Local Shop.  Become a regular/loyal customer and they will take care of you.  I bought my sportec M1 for 109 and 10 for install.  But, if you bring a tire in from somewhere else, it's 40 to install :cookoo:

I just brought my bike in for some major work and told them what I could spend,  they said if labor went over we'd work something out and it wasn't a big deal :thumb:

Exactly.  They're cheaper online, but if you take them to a shop to get them mounted, it's cheaper to have just bought them from the shop to begin with.  Most will mount their tires for free (if the wheels are off the bike).

the local place is charging me $72 for front and rear.

next time i'm doing it myself.

At my shop, we charge $15/wheel off-the-bike, and $39/wheel on the bike.  On a bike like the GS with the center-stand, take the time to take the wheels off if you can transport them another way.  Definitely worth it.

holy moly 72 bucks to change a tire.  I'm wondering how much it'll cost to get a machine to mount for local use and advertise it on craigslist or something.  If I could charge 15 per set to mount then I could pay for the machine awful quick and make some money after that.
