Thinking about jetting my bike ('96 gs500e)  I'm new at this and would like to get some input on jet kits/installation.  Thanks.

don't use Dynojet jet kits.Remember this,if you change exhaust you'll have to rejet,if you change air filters you'll have to rejet.If you're planning an exhaust or air filter up grade get jets for that and do the upgrades all at the same time.Check this out.It may help. http://cgi.stanford.edu/~sanjayd/gs500/Upgrades/Rejetting

I'm curious to know your reasons for wanting to rejet?

Most people want to do this to hop-up the bike's performance.  Usually done in conjunction with a different Air Filter and Exhaust.

My bike seems to vibrate...screws come loose, etc.  a friend suggested rejetting.

If you're having vib problems,something else is wrong.Check tire pressure and balance.Change the spark plugs and air filter.

you only have to rejet if changing from one type of filter to another right?  Like from stock filter to a lunchbox, but not a K&N stock replacement?
lK&N unchbox w/ rejet with 140 mains, F-18 flyscreen, truck bed liner black, superbike bars with 3rd eye bar end mirrors, license plate rear turn signals, micro front turn signals

ummm im just curious i was thinking on rejetting my '06 gs500f and getting a K&N stock replacement filter, and i've already got an aftermarket exhaust (the yoshimura trs slip-on) and i was going to get dynojet

y do you say dont use dynojet?  :icon_confused: is there problems with them or they dont work good?

i have a dynojet kit on my bike, it took a bit of tuning to get it right. but it runs pretty well now. i think people tend to stray away from jet kits because its cheaper to just buy the jets you need and maybe simpler? there is drilling involved with the dynojet kit.

I also have DJ kit and also took me a while to make it work properly!
I'm a bit "scared" though cause I just bought LEO VINCE SBK exhaust and I'm thinking if it's going to make me lean or not. If it does I will have to change the jets but I have the biggest ones from DJ kit right now in my carbs. If I have to change them I'll have to buy the original jets and go back to the stock needles.
So going back to you questions about DynoJet Kit - I DON'T recommend it! Installation is easy and actually you don't have to drill anything except for the mixture screw plug - not a big deal though. But it's a lot harder to make this kit work properly on customized bike with many mods.
Go for "regular" rejetting (stock needles, mikuni jets, shims). That's what I'm gonna do but in next season.(Leo Vince made me broke  :laugh: )

This can be jetting, or more likely, it can be a synch problem in the carb, or somehow the 2 carbs are different. Float level, pilot jet somehting is messed up in 1. I have this one dude whose 96 seems to be doing it a lot. It turned out that his carbs are also leaking ... its comming here soon, I'll let you know what it was. Also my old 89 was buttery smooth down at idle and pretty much all the way across, will put a 4 cyl to shame. The 90 I had at the same time was buzzy as heck under 3500 but smoothed out above. it was needing a synch. I eyeball synched it and it was great.

2001+ bikes don't need the hassles of a dynojet.

Just go and buy a pair of 20 or 22.5  pilot jets

two 65 mid main jets

and two 145 main jets



Undo your float bowl

Screw out the old


screw in the new

reassemble the float bowl, prime it and ride away!  :thumb:

With the dynojet kit you have to drill out the slides.Once this is done it's more difficult to return to stock,but it can be done.Buying jets is an near plug and play event.It takes very little tuning compared to a dynojet kit.
