I'm a first time rider who completed the Motorcycle Safety Course a few months ago.  Even though I'm a fairly large guy I decided to look for something in the 500cc class for my first bike.  Luckily I found a used 2004 GS500F for sale that I promptly snatched up.

Overall, I think the GS500F makes a great first bike.  I've found it easy to ride with enough power for quick acceleration without being "twitchy".  Next season I'll probably upgrade to a V-Strom 1000 but for now, using it a commuter bike, I'm pretty happy with the GS500F.  Well except for the @#$% mirrors.

Now for the tip.
As I said, I'm a pretty big guy with broad shoulders.  Which basically meant that all I saw in the mirror were those same shoulders.  I started looking around for a solution and found some Mirror Spacer/Extenders on eBay for $30.00 that I decided to take a chance on.  What a difference.

I've included some photos below showing them mounted on my bike.  Basically they are a 1" nylon spacer with longer bolts that sit between the faring and the mirrors.  One inch may not sound like much but it really improved the visibility of the mirrors.  No shaking or vibration, just improved visibility.

Well I'm over 40 and am unfortunately only to aware of my mortality. :)

ohgood

Don't worry...

Small framed girls don't see anything in their mirrors either - so don't think you're Andre The Giant re-incarnate or anything ;)

Good find on the mirror spacers though.

:)
