I put the vw exhaust tip on my exhaust. I put a 40pilot jet , 160 main jet,3 turns on the needle and upto 3 washers. It runs just right idling through about 5500 rpm anything above that it leans out real bad. Any suggestions can I put more washers or more turns? I even had a old set of jets that I drilled out as big as I could. Anybody please.

Dude, why do you think it's lean.  My bet would be it's mega-rich :thumb:

Well that is what I thought. I check the plug all the way from idle to about 5000 rpm it was carmel to black in color. But when I open it up all the way and cut the power at full trottle and ck the plug the plug is clean free of any of the color like it got hot. Also it will take full trottle while its not moving but when you put it in gear and go 6000rpm and thats it.

My guess is rich as well, what kind of air filter are you running? Are you  using the stock airbox?

150 seems to be the right number for after market exhuast and lunch box air filters, if you drilled out the main jet and it still ran like crap, that means it is uber-rich

Im still running a stock airbox. I have ran it with and without the filter. It seems to run a little better without the filter.

Something is wrong ...
152.5 will be discernibly bad over a 150, 155 will be death. 160 and still lean ???
OK How does it run under full load from 1/2 throttle up if you ...
1. Open throttle slowly. Say 1/2 to 3/4 throttle.
2. Open it fast from 1/2 to 3/4 throttle.
I am thinking slides comming up too fast. If 1 is good and 2 is bad, that = slide comming up too fast.
Cool.

I think this is his problem, you are way to rich, a stock aribox and an aftermarket pipe usually puts you around 127.5, I would say try something in this range, if it doesn't work then you can chase down if 160 is right but the slides come up to fast. I really think the stock air box is the limiting factor in the whole intake/exhaust system

If you open trottle slw and work with it you can get it to open up a little better. If you open the trottle fast it goes to about 5500. When I first started this (open exhaust) I had a stock airbox with a 127.5 main jet. It ran better but I know for a fact it was way to lean. I will post pics when I can figure out how to upload them. As far as sound it is a beast and you can tell once I get the jets right the power will be there too.

jon49337

I just ordered a 150 main jet I will have it in a few days . Hope it works.

coll0412

I think 150 is going to be to big still, I actually would have ordered a range from 127.5 to 150, cuz you will have to find what works for you bike and setup, which I must say is pretty unique, so the jetting matrix is only a good starting point.

Ive got a 127.5 and it was running lean with it real lean.

NWDave

Don't forget altitude, I've got to the valves on my 500 but I am sure that I'm going to have to change out the pilot for a bigger.

coll0412

I am not questioning whether it was lean, I was just recommending to buy a range, you have to remember area changes to the square of diameter, so going from a 127.5 to 150 is only like a 17% change in diameter but is a 38% change in area, and assuming all things constant increases your fuel flow rate by 38%, thats a big change

I understand what you are saying. I will try the 150 If it doesnt work I will order a different one. Thank you for the help. What do you suggest for the washers and the turns on the needle. I was thinking 3 to 4 turns and 3 washers. What do you think?

Start with 2 washers, as thats usually a good starting point. As far as the idle mixture screws, 2.5 turns out is also a good starting point but are pretty irrelevant at anything above idle. My recommendation is to figure out the 5000rpm dead spot, and once you got that figure out the rest.

i GOT IT GOING  150 main 40 pilot 3 turns 0 washers. I will try to post pics tomorrow.
