get your macs while you still can,
Quote2008 will be a critical year for Apple, Microsoft, and the Linux contingent. If Apple can't significantly expand its presence by then in the PC market it is likely going to be finished with this segment. Its likely path in that case will be to focus more aggressively on the consumer electronics market it currently dominates.

spc

Yeah, the same thing has been said every few years for the last decade and a half.  Then 2007 hit.  Mac stock more than doubled and they released products heralded as revolutionary.   Mac isn't going anywhere for a very long time. :thumb:

I'm referring more to the iPod's and iPhone's. Definitely not the computers

Hell, most people in my town don't know what a iPhone is.  God bless the uneducated south :icon_rolleyes:

The computers are incredible.  I've never had a problem out of my MacBook and don't expect to when I upgrade to a MacBook Pro.  What's funny is I'm going to get my ACPT and ACDT certifications primarily just to justify buying that nice of a computer      Well, the money on service calls for Apple systems is pretty nice too :thumb:

Soooo we have a phone you have to hack to do anything with :icon_rolleyes:
It does not offer an expandable memory card storage option like my phone does  :icon_rolleyes:
If you have to have the battery replaced you have to send it in to have it done :icon_rolleyes:

The only thing the iPhone is good for in my opinion is blending.

Why didn't you just go the whole way and buy me a f@#king Kawasaki you bastards.

The touch interface, especially when using a wifi connection and the browser, is truly amazing.  If that's important to you (and it is to me), then the iPhone is pretty sweet.  I have a treo 650 right now and can't wait to get rid of it.  If they sold the iPhone it in Canada I'd buy one in a second.  I guess I'll need to make the trip over the border soon and pick it up.  $399 is not that unreasonable.

On a somewhat related note, I finally took the plunge this year and bought a macbook.  I run linux/debian on my desktop and really didn't need a windows machine at home, so I figured it would be cool to try out mac osx.  Unfortunately I've had way too many problems with it.  The battery died, so I needed to get that replaced.  It now sounds like the drive is going.. it refused to boot for a couple of days.  Took it into the mac geeks and (surprise surprise) it did boot up.  They ran a diagnostic and couldn't find anything wrong.  I love the display, the touch pad controls, the OS in general, yada yada, but the hardware is not as reliable as I was hoping.  I've even had it crash a few times!?  It just hangs!  I'm really hoping the iPhone will be more reliable.  As far as I've heard (and read), it is.

If they made a solid movie editing package, offered iTunes for linux and a few other misc codecs currently missing, I would never consider running another OS.

spc

Hmmmmm,  I've never had any of those problems with my macbook.  The only problem I've ever had is Safari Beta freezing up, but that was back when it was initially released.
As far as the phone,  haven't had a problem out of it.  The interface is incredible intuitive and overall a lot of fun when you have a wi-fi connection or if you're in a major area where coverage is good.

HT 8525 touchscreen, wifi yadda yadda yadda and I am not at apples propietary bullshit mercy for applications for my phone.
Why didn't you just go the whole way and buy me a f@#king Kawasaki you bastards.

sys49152

The HTC 8525 is a great phone.  But I don't think you can compare its traditional touch screen to the interactivity provided by the iPhone's touchscreen screen -- they're designed completely differently and it will come down to personal preference I guess.

Quoteand I am not at apples propietary bullshit mercy for applications for my phone.

So you'd rather be at the bullshit mercy of Microsoft's Windows Mobile 5.0 supported applications on the HTc 8525?  I can't see how that is any better or worse than Apple.   If that's a problem for a customer, they'll need to go buy a java OS based phone (Sony Ericsson), or one that a linux kernel has been ported to (not fun).

bettingpython

Hundreds of applications available for the windows mobile OS. It has been rock solid stable on 5.0 not a single issue with its integration between my office pc on XP pro and my home pc on Vista ultimate. And as I pointed out one of the major issues is I can just change my battery if the cell develops a memory level which degrades performance. If I want everything off of my phone to put into a new phone it's all on a 2gig micro SD card all of my contacts are on my PC I could recover from a phone failure in a matter of minutes if it went Kaput. No backroom voodo to get my stored items off of the iPhone and installed on another one.

I went and looked at the I phone. It's pretty :icon_rolleyes:
Why didn't you just go the whole way and buy me a f@#king Kawasaki you bastards.

spc

I'm not at apple's mercy either regarding programs,  Google and minimal programming skills can work wonders.
Whoopie for you, BP, I can recover from a complete phone failure also.

I've used an 8525, and while it is a very capable device the interface is very dated in comparison to the iPhone.
