Leaking petrol tank

Yes my 1995 GS500E/S is incontinent
cant find a second hand tank that doesn't look like it will go the same way in a few weeks.
So question,
can you fit the later tank 2000 onwards tank to an earlier bike, would this need a matching seat and side panels.

As an update, I have tried sealing the tank with petseal but the lower rear edges of the tank are full of pinprick holes.
So a newer tank looks like the only option as such I really need to know
what is involved in fitting the later shaped tank.

The 01+ tank itself is a direct fit. The rest is depending on how wuch work you want to do. On my 97, I cut and welded mounts from a 05 frame to use 01+ seat & bodywork. Ben2go is using 89-00 seat & bodywork. He had to make small brackets to hold the front of the side plastics. The front of the seat got bent away from the tank a little due to the different profile. He has pics posted.
Common sense in not very common.
