I was thinking instead of doing the reflectorectomy, just completely removing the relectors. Is this "street legal"? Also does anyone have pictures of one that was done like this, or maybe some type of reflector "decal" on the tail/side instead?

galahs

I Australia it is illegal not to have a rear red reflector.

I think you could get away with having just a reflector decal. Most important function is that it works (ie reflects light)

And for the saftey of your bike both with you on it and when parked, reflectors of some sort are a necessity!

in arizona you just have to have rear red taillight, i dont have reflecctors on my bike

Here in Italy, rear red reflector is mandatory by law.
But many bikers, I suppose the majority (me included :icon_mrgreen:) do not have one, because of a fenderectomy or an aftermarket, sportier plateholder.
It's not that big of an issue (at least here); usually the metro cops give you a fine for that, but only if/when you've been a naughty kid and/or they've decided that today you must go back home with a lighter wallet.

Lol. I don't know if I love it or hate it!  :) :dunno_white:

aha ha....

well technically speaking in the USA it is REQUIRED to have RED/Orange Reflectors on front and back corners of vehicles, check your cars or motorcycle, they come from the factory with them, not because they are pretty to look at, but because the law requires it, now that said... I kept mine because I do TONS of nighttime driving with my "TRON" bike, and yes it may look "obscene"  to all, but... I never had a close call yet during night time.

its a misdemeanor to remove the reflectors, and most cops will only give you a ticket a) anal about life and how the produce tickets b) really looking to slap you with a bunch of technical tickets because you ran your mouth at him 2 mins before.

Do you have a link to that vehicle code information?

Add:

"Every such reflector shall be of such size and characteristics and so maintained as to be visible at night from all distances within three hundred feet to fifty feet from such vehicle"

So basically, any kind of red reflective material that can be seen at 300 feet. That does not exclude red reflective decals. Shape and size is not mentioned. I gues you can put red reflective flames on the side, is so desired. I was planning on adhering the reflector to the fender without the brackets. The problem is that the reflectors have a bolt that comes out of the rear. On the hunt now for an alternative that looks good.

CndnMax

Decals may worki  :dunno_white:, you can just cut/break off the screw and nub from the reflectors.
