Was curious what the average chain life is?
I lube mine every 600-1000 miles and it seems in good shape as do the sprokets
chain has over 6000 miles on it

I got close to 20,000 miles out of my stock chain.  Of course, the one that came on my '99 was a D.I.D. X-ring.  I have replaced it with a D.I.D. O-ring chain.  I expect to get at least 15,000 miles out of it.

I got 16k miles out of the stock DID o-ring. Then the o-rings started to fall off.

Personally, I would lube about twice as often as that.  every300-500 miles.

Even better, put a Scottoiler or Dunkoiler (my DIY beastie with solenoid valve) on it and get 32000 miles (DID X Ring).

I tend to forget to lube, and so it helps, plus it tends to keep all the gunge off the chain.  I only rteplaced one other set of chain and sprockets on the GS, and that was at about 10000 (before I made the oiler).  For shame...

I had to replace my stock D.I.D. chain at ~30000km (18750 miles)... I lubed it fairly regular at 500-1000km intervals. But I am the 2nd owner and I don't know what was up in the first 23000km.

I gow an IRIS X-ring chain with new sprocets now and it's great. :)
