After thinking and thinking and getting impatient and wanting to ride before the season is over, I coughed up some cash and bought this baby:

1994 GS 500e
5100 miles
stock everything

came with a laundry list of maintenance receipts, including multiple oil changes, gas tank treatment, new fuel lines, new brake pads, and carb-cleaning. the front fender is in my shed, just needs attaching when I add new tires.

my list of future mods/additions in order of pref:
case guards
vacuum-less petcock modification (from earlier thread)
super fenderectomy
reflectorectomy
exhaust and stage 1 jet
new turn signals
paint job bonanza consisting of black bodywork and tank and cherry-red frame, swingarm, and wheels

taking her out for the first time this friday

Ive been sucking at this site like a leech the past few weeks, hopefully I'll be able to start providing input/feedback soon.

He said it's in his shed.

Nice, clean bike!

GeicoCaveman

OH man thats a really clean bike. 5100 miles only as well?! nice.

I was totally surprised how clean the bike looked, as well. So much so that I killed most of my bargaining potential by whistling and going "Damn, that's a sexy bike!" So much for a poker face.  :icon_mrgreen:

Here's hoping an inexperience rider like myself can keep it clean. I'm going to take it easy, review all my MSF BRC exercises, and stick to the slow roads for a bit before facing the perils of speed and traffic.

Thanks for the compliments!

GeeP

Very pretty!

Yep, practice your MSF stuff before you hit the street.  Give the bike a once-over and check for loose nuts and bolts, proper chain slack, clutch freeplay, etc.  Also, check the date codes on your tires.  I bet they're the original Excedra tires, in which case you need to replace them IMMEDIATELY!  They will provide about as much traction as used eraser rubber.   ;)
Every zero you add to the tolerance adds a zero to the price.

If the product "fails" will the product liability insurance pay for the "failure" until it turns 18?

Holy crap, I think you're right. Do you think it's safe to ride at all, or should it not see the light of day until the tires are replaced?

Thanks for the warning!

yamahonkawazuki

what geep was sayin is theyre about as slick as a babies a**. anyhoo i would replace them immediately, i do suppose you could ride it, BUT not hard :thumb:

Very nice. I bought a 94 a few days ago as well.. 3300 miles and in the same condition as yours. Mine was 1600$ tho.. So you win. ;)

Check the chain tension 1st thing. When I bought mine it was very loose. A chain thats a little too loose can cause you some very big problems down the road.

DUDE! that's a nice ride. Looks like it's been taken care of extremly well! Very nice.
Enjoy your new baby

Will do. Found the maintenance guide on the GS Wiki, going to use that to do a once-over before hitting the road. I'm so giddy to take this puppy out tomorrow morning that I can barely sleep. I'm sure this fist routine checkup is going to take me hours as I try to figure out what the hell is going on, but hopefully will be a good learning experience.

congrats. now get ready to spend even more money.

Well played!  Looks like someone's been pampering that little honey.

Enjoy!

I bought mine from a guy who lives on a dirt road and I'm still cleaning the dust out of the nooks and cranies.

I always thought of motorcycling as the poor wrenchers thrill ride to freedom. I didn't realize you had to wear a suit and tie weekdays nine to five to afford it.

Apparently the 94 is very popular this summer.  I am a inexperienced rider and just bought a 94 GS500 for $1000.00 but, I had to do a bit of work to it because it set for two years.  New tires was at the top of the list.
