I noticed the tail light assembly on my 05 seemed to have too much free movement in an up and down direction.

I thought the screws might need tightening but they were fine.

I then noticed the little bit of foam that suzuki wedged in between the tail light assembly and the fender was gone.

So I replaced it today with some double sided mounting foam.
It is better but I was wondering what other members on here have done to stop their tail light from doing the 'Shimmy Shimmy Shake!" 

mine wobbles.


I ignore it.

As far as I remember, my taillight wobbles a bit, too.

And I don't mind, too.

I wonder what effect the wobble would have on the light globes life
(not that it bothers me too much as I have LED's )

Most tail lights, and lights for that matter on the back of motorcycles are foam or rubber mounted to preserve the life of the bulb. The vibrations the bike creates would break the bulb so most are "soft" mounted i.e. if you put your hand on it you should be able to move it up and down a little. However it shouldn't be bouncing as you go along the road.

  Mine only wobbles when I smack it.  Nope mine don't.I even grabbed it and tried to move it.SOLID! 

i gots me some wobble to    the foam is probably what keeps it from wobbling too much, dont worry about it

my old one wobbled around a bit but the new LED only has a small amount of movement

Got mine from germany but it is just the taillight with out the blinkers. My Thought was cars seem to get confused around bikes as it is why make it harder for them to understand why a taillight blinks before they hit you

Seems it might be a 04+ thing?

My tailight only wobbles in a vertical plane (up and down)



Zephler, I just purchased some high intensity direct replacement 1157 LED's.

If it is not the screws it may be a combo of them and the rubber stoppers

Ya, a few of the CBR's and R1's around here have those. I can't stand them. The LED's are aimed poorly, too directional, and the BRAKE or SIGNAL comes off so badly it's very difficult as a motorcyclist to see it. Now, imagine a coffee-swilling, cigarette toking, kids-in-the-back-screaming, late-for-work-again SUV driver behind you that doesn't care or watch anyway.

One of the local riders replaced the stock CBR brake light with one (ONE mind you) of those strips of red LED's. No signals at all, no mirrors, etc. Riding behind people with no signals on the street is no fun at all. The only hint you get is when they actually lock the rear for a moment and put up smoke signals.

Needless to say I'll hang out behind a ex500 (big purdy lights) or a triumph if I can. Can't miss those things signaling.

Yes, my taillight shakes up/down a little, I've packed doublestick foam in there, and there is less movement. The wife followed me one day and said it looked better going over train tracks  so I guess it worked.
