Hey, can you guys please help me out.  In 2005 I bought a GS500 from someone by the name of Paul in Washington state, then I moved to chicago with the bike and the title he gave me.  Now I lost the title and I have no way of contacting this guy cuz I don't have phone number.  I never registered the title in my name so it is still in name and I can't find him.  I want to ride the bike but don't know how I can get it registered.  Please help.

Thanks,

Adam.

I forget, but there is a way to do it without getting the previous owner's signature...but its a long and painful ordeal. good luck.

its called a bonded title and it has to go through an insurance agency. pretty much its an agreement that if the owner makes a claim within the 1-2 years that the bond is open then he gets the bike or the money. Oh yeah and the bond is for the blue book value of the bike. I did it with my old sv650 and i ended up paying 10% of a 1000$ bond because it was a 99 with salvaged title. I bought it from my old boss before he disappeared to thailand. Not all states will do it though

Do you have any relatives or friends in Washington State still? Any of them good  friends with any Law Enforcement officers?  Give them the VIN  number and maybe they can run the VIN and get the contact information ( address at least )-it will still be registered under the last owners name.  Then ask the guy (if you get a hold of him) to get you a duplicate title - there's a fee and maybe offer him a few bucks for his trouble.

I had an old abandoned boat here when I moved inhere--Instead of filing the abandoned  stuff I asked a DNR officer I kind of knew how to go about it ( I knew about filing for the abandoned stuff... fee's, paperwork and hoops to jump through o-plenty ). He called in and ran the registration number and got me a name and address in a minute or two... found his phone number ( i hoped) and called the man and said he needed to get his boat or give me the title( boat sat here for a long time after I was here..).He got a replacement title and sent it. I offered him some cash and a dinner for his troubles but he declined...nice guy.

It's not exactly the same thing but pretty close....

Good luck.

When the 2nd Amendment is lost, the rest will soon follow.

Thanks I am looking up bonded title now for IL.  Here are the pictures of the bike ranging from when I orignally bought it from Ebay, then just dong some work on it myself to now having the work done on it by a professional.  Tell me if you think its worth the trouble  ;)

This is what it looked like when I bought it orignally

This is what it looked like when I did some work on it myself

And this is what it looks like now.

Got enough stickers on that thing? You race it or something?

I called all the major insurance company for the bonded insurance today and none seem to offer it, anyone know of a company that offers it?

Can't help with the title but it does look slick. Tends to look like a track fugitive. Except for the studded snow tire up front!

Every zero you add to the tolerance adds a zero to the price.

If the product "fails" will the product liability insurance pay for the "failure" until it turns 18?

Get in touch with the licensing agency, say you bought the bike, the title wasn't transfered and wondered if they could look up your registration and find who the bike is registered, either ask them for the address so you can send a letter or look up the number or ask them to contact the guy to get in touch with you regarding the title

Thanks,  I will get in touch with the DMV or the licencesing agency as suggested and see what I can do.

bonded title?  it's never necessary to get a bonded title.  Go to the DMV and tell them you need to file for lost title.  They'll take care of you.

A guy I know owns a car dealership, he says he can get the title in my name & license plates for a fee of $125.00.  Does this seem right?

Prafeston

I spent that much licensing and paying the taxes on mine which I bought for 1500. So I'd say it's not bad. And if your buddy can do it then you don't have to go through all that crap, he'll just do it for you. So you'll be paying him for his time so you don't have to waste yours.
