Fontana trackday, nov 2.
Camera bike is 01 gsxr 750. I'm lead bike in the first 5 minutes or so (also in camera shot in the pits), then our friends on R1's come by and camera bike follows. At the end you can barely make out a crash in front of them. Guy hit his head and was knocked out cold.

This is the same course as AMA races, although our times are in the 1:40's.

That is a great video, cool to see what it is like, one of the guys in my maintenance class was at a track, might be the same on Monday, he was in the novice group with about forty other guys. He told me that he is now addicted, I can see why. Cool vid :thumb: :thumb:

well, the pro's run a lot faster:
Quote2006 AMA Superbike Champion Ben Spies was once again the fastest rider as several AMA teams conducted a second, two-day test in as many weeks at California Speedway, in Fontana, California.

Riding his 2007-spec Yoshimura Suzuki GSX-R1000, Spies lapped the 2.36-mile, 21-turn infield road course in 1:23.51

the slowest time allowed at the trackday for the race group is 1:45. if you can't run faster than that they pull you to the next group down. All the bikes are required to have timers, which they provide.

I feel as though I need a cigarette after that fine example of moto pr0n.  :icon_lol:

That was the hawtness... but I think I peed my pants around some of those corners. You guys are FAST!!!!!!!!!!! What's an estimate of how fast you were going?  :o

And that camera guy is crazy!

pablo, do you find that you're aware of the camera man on your @$$, or are you so focused on your riding that you don't notice him so close back there?

hard to estimate speed as I wasnt looking down very much... :icon_twisted:
I can tell you that we'd pass under the pedestrian bridge (just after turns 10-11, the slight chicane we'd cut across) at about 130. I'd be at the end of that infield straight at 135.

At the end of the banked front straight I'd hit 135-140 but only because I am geared down a bit and the ram air tubes are missing on my bike, otherwise I'd be hitting 155 like before. Tirning into the little turn 1 chicane at the end of the front straight I'd brake down to 110 or so to tip it in. That is a hard turn, hard to turn the bike at that speed and harder still to turn it back to the right for the second half as the suspension is bottoming out on the transition from banked to flat.

that nice double apex is at about 60-70. thats one of my favorites because you're decked out for quite a few seconds on your knee and often on the peg (vortex rearsets ready to go on the bike now). The other section I like is the last few turns before the front straight. If I got a good run through there, double apexing them on my knee I could get good drive onto the straight, which I needed...

I could sometimes hear his exhaust behind me when we'd slow for a corner and he came up on me but otherwise I just put my head down and tried to stay ahead of him.

He pointed the camera backwards sitting on his tail the last session and we had a REALLY good battle then but the batteries died midway...yet to see what he got off the camera.

I now run strictly on DOT race tires...

nope, no street riding. too many tickets. too many close calls. race bodywork is on full time, but I did keep the street stuff just in case I want to do a street ride sometime, maybe if Pandy comes to town...lol...

Once I started riding at the track once a month street riding wasn't enjoyable at all-too risky, not fast enough. I'd rather pay my $150 and spend the day at the track with the throttle pinned...
